It's funny to me as I've seen this thread develop. I saw the 2015, sitting next to my '14 and said **** I guess I better get it because its the last of the aggressive body style. The '15 to me looked like any other Z. When I drove it, and I test drove the '15, '14, and a sport packaged '15 the '14 NISMO felt like a track prepped car and both '15s felt the same to me suspension and power wise. But comparing a Z to a Porsche, Lambo, or Ferrari? Honestly unless you reaching into a really special Porsche, caymans, and standard 911's don't fall here, the Z is going to have more value in the long run. And why they may not be as fast they will out corner them, and feel so much more like a sports car. Bottom end Porsche, feel like a bottom end Porsche. I can't explain it other than if you have driven a GT3 or Carrera turbo 4S and than you know a 911 cabriolet, let alone a boxter or cayman is not the same car. Than to say ferrari or lambo has never made a mistake, you fail to remember the great 360 spyder, no heart, no soul, and can be purchased for around 70K, 60 if you really look, or driven a Gallardo compared to a Countache or Murcielago. They are not cars in the same league but brought up as examples of manufactures with out fault. If you have driven either one of those models compared to the company standard you will know faults where made. I feel like there is a lot of opinions being thrown around in this thread with out experience other than day dreaming and drooling. While my Z isn't a RUFF prepped Porsche, it sure in my eyes is a hell of a lot better than a Cayman designed to get middle class males during a midlife crisis to over pay for a name. While the 2015 isn't the turbo charged power plant people wanted, it did remove the aggressive "boy racer" body kit and wing non-z enthusiast complained about. Nissan listened a little, softer suspension, and less aggressive is what non-z guys asked for. We already have the Z dedication we where not who they where trying to bring to the fold. Those of us who have Z's keep fueling the 10K a year purchase because we have a love affair with the car for one reason or another. I feel the 2015 NISMO was an attempt to peak sales with those without a Z history but looking for an entry level sports car. If the 2015 Z stole sales from Porsche, Benz, or Mercedes because it's a little more reserved, and softer to drive that encourages Nissan to move forward with a new design and maybe a mythical stock turbo.
But for one last dig, the only difference I see in the '13 and '14 for all those wanting to say the '13 is the best ever is paint options, which is an easy fix, and lets be honest, stock paint no matter what year kind of sucks at the end of the day. Instead of saying year x is better than year y, lets realize all Z's have created trends among the auto industry that others follow and try to compete with. As an example take a look at the 914? If you don't think Porsche didn't create that out of fear of the Z you were not paying attention. Or dare I say it the FRS and BRZ. |

^ Interesting viewpoint and discussion.
When I get back to the states (should be in the next month or less), I plan on testing the 15-16 out. With the right stuff (13-14 wing and CS lip kit), it will be visually appealing to me. I just hope that it is not just like a Sport with a different dress on. If that is the case, I will gladly take a 13-14 for the right price (I'll even go get a cheap 09 if I have to).

I think if you are wanting to maximize performance of the body kit (down force) the 09 through 14 is the choice to make. Someone asked BJ (pro driver in the Continental Challenge series) why they have not changed to the new body style and he just said they have not been able to get same lap times out of it. But if you only care about looks the 15 and 16 don't suck, I would just put a real Nismo wing on it.

I have driven both quite a bit and I like the '15 better than the '14 for a street car. I have also driven a Sport Package Z (but not a 13+) and the '15 NISMO is definitely stiffer than the 2009 - 2012 Sport Package.
So, I don't know if the '13+ Sport Package is as stiff as the '15 NISMO or not, but the '15 NISMO is definitely not as stiff as the '14. For me, that works, as do the Recaro seats, navigation, Bose stereo with bluetooth, Homelink, et cetera et cetera that my '14 did not have. For a race car... I would be putting Konis on anyway and it's not like I couldn't find a set of NISMO linear springs if those were the best thing you can get for the car... Or I'd do coilovers. As far as the aerodynamics, I've heard dumber things being done but I don't really know why Nissan would redesign the body kit for looks and hamper performance. It's not like the old setup was ugly, I would have traded my '14 for a '15 that was the same body kit but with the Recaros, Tech package, etc. What I'm saying is, I didn't swap to a '15 because of the looks. I did it for the content. It's not that I don't like the looks better, but not THAT much. I think the *automatic* and the upgraded seats and such have brought more "new" people in to look at the NISMO - especially the Automatic. Because a lot of old guys who buy $45K toy cars want automatics... Why, I have no idea. Last edited by Davey; 09-12-2015 at 02:03 PM. |

Lol, I one of those old guys and I agree with you on all counts. I upgraded my suspension so I don't have a dog in that fight. I still get people asking me if my car is new because they don't know any better and there aren't that many Nismos out there. I do like the new creature features of the new Nismo. Upgrading mine now that the performance mods are about done.

I get the complaints about stiff suspension if you have spinal issues, but it cracks me up that folks without issues complain that the Nismo suspension is too stiff. I spent almost thirty years in 4x4 trucks off road in the fish and wildlife business, so I guess stiffness is a matter of perspective. Oh and I'm 55 going on 20...still playing softball with a bunch 50 and older guys lol. Forever young!

I don't feel the '09 -'14 is too stiff at all... Until I drive it for 2 hours.
I sleep on an orthopedic pillow so I don't have to take pain medication. I don't think it is that bad either - just more than I can take. I used to race go karts - those don't have a suspension at all! |

The RECARO seats in the '15 did it for me and the fact that I will be getting coilovers negated the fact that it was not as stiff as the previous years. A car being stiff is an easy fix. Those RECARO seats are too damn expensive to buy if I didn't get the '15. And lastly, the '15 to me is a more mature sports car and less boy racer without that giant wing. I'm 29 and not a teen anymore.
As far as aerodynamics go, I don't think I will ever be able to push the car hard enough to tell if the aero kit works. Last edited by wanderer1234; 09-13-2015 at 11:24 PM. |
