So with my friend's help I think I pinpointed the buzzing from the hatch lock. I taped my cellphone onto the metal piece which is securing the lock in place and I think I found that to be the piece rattling/buzzing. I took it off and kinda fabricated some "dynamat" from my old mouse pad, pulled some holes on it and put it behind the metal piece to prevent it from touching car's metal cabin. Hopefully the buzzing will be gone because I broke a screw driver and my hands are full of calluses from all the untightening and tightening.

I get a seldom dash vibration when the rpms get around 4k at full throttle. Besides that its all good. I have the 18" resonators on my FI exhaust.

Confirm problem fixed:tup:now I get a very mild "mouse pad" flappy sound. very easy ignored.:rofl2:

Well I'm glad you were able solve your problem, but now I have one. I was thinking of getting the FI exhaust but with what it seems like a common problem of rattles hissing and unknown noises I'm a little hesitant. I've gotten exhausts on other cars and never had problems with them. These are special made for the Z and come from the factory with these issues puts pause in me. Other than the noise do you like the exhaust , sound and power?

Fast Intentions on NISMO
The hiss is a characteristic of the motor, not anything specific to the FI exhaust. If you go with HFCs or TPs you'll get it. Rattles are usually an install issue.

FI is great exhaust. Very addictive sound. Rattling will likely to happen but you can try to diagnose it and fabricate something to seal the rattle. Power-wise can't tell, never been on dyno yet. |
Agree with the above. My experience with the FI exhaust (almost one year) has been great. Fit is rock solid, no rattling and sound is amazing. I paired it with Berk high flow cats so I get the deceleration hiss, but honestly I got over it pretty quick. With the three basic bolt ons and a tune I put down 330 whp on the dynojet, so power gains are definitely there.
Haven't read one horror story with this exhaust yet. Do the research and you'll learn the company's rep and product quality are second to none. |

I haven't dyno'd my car, but considering the baselines I've seen for Nismos ~280hp, I was assuming I had far less than 330... but I wouldn't think intake would add much. |
Baseline was 314, so we knew right out of the gate that the final number would be impressive. The difference is attributed to UpRev and probably the finest Z tuner in Southern Cali.
The baselines you're reporting for the Nismos are bone stock and I don't know the extent of your mods. Even with identical mods on the same dyno in the same weather, I've seen differences of 3,4,5 whp. Every car will be different. In my case I'm just pretty lucky that the car responded well to my combo and the tune optimized the output. To keep this thread on topic, I'm sure the FI is playing a huge role in my gains. The Nismo exhaust is advertised as "high flow" but I don't really buy it. I discovered what high flow was when I opened the throttle with the FI for the first time! |
Kind of off topic, but does anyone know a good cleaning product for the stock exhaust tips? I have had the FI test pipes for a few months now and my exhaust tips have developed a burnt orange color to them. Have tried scrubbing with soap and hot water and really hasn't helped. Thanks

i correct my previous statement. always thought my exhaust rattled the car on cold starts...turns out my exhaust is rattling my car port! haha
