Looking for a Used Nismo....How Much Will They Come Off Their Price?

I'm starting the process of shopping for a used Nismo 370, and on AutoTrader I'm seeing a few "Price Reduced" on some listings. How much should I expect a dealer to come off their listed price once I get into the negotiating stage? Right now I'm just scouting what's out there and how fast they're moving. Really don't seem to be flying off the lots right now.

Secondly, is there any reason to shy away from an '09 Nismo vs a '10 or '11?

Thanks.

Elan 01-16-2014 01:00 PM

Nope no real reason to take a 09 vs 10/11. The 10 got a cabin air filter (which you can install in an 09 yourself, there is a DIY). Also the 11 or 12 got an oil cooler. So if you want to track it, then grab that one. Even with it, I heard you need an aftermarket for the really aggressive stuff.

The dreaded steering wheel lock could be an issue, but just get the work done before you drive it off the lot. It's a recall item and should be free, regardless of warranty.

I wouldn't buy a 2009 or something where I can't extend the power train warranty. With CSCs going out and engines consuming oil, I think the extra cost is worth the peace of mind.

Also, every year added is about $3k in devaluation (all else equal)

Agreed about the CSC going out. That terrifies me.

It might depend on how long the car is sitting on their lot. They will drop the price by thousands if they want to move the car. The car i bought was reduced by ~2k, and a friend of mine with a Nismo 370, got around 4k off, because he was being really aggressive with them (29k-25k). With a used Nismo you have leverage, because its an unusual car, and its the middle of winter.

That's what I'm thinking. The problem is I really can't pull the trigger until March. My winter leverage might be going away by then.

So............

If you plan on making modifications, a 2009 could be the ticket. Just understand that there were some finicky things going on since it was the first model year for the 370Z and the NISMO got some major revisions.

If you plan on enjoying the car mostly stock (or lightly modified) for some spirited driving or even just a sporty DD, go with a later model. The later the model, the more creature comforts and revisions were make.

Major revisions? Where have I been? The Nismo is the least changed model.

Over time they have added a fake oil cooler... And changed the colors (now 2 tone and dark wheels/red calipers, standard with the Sport package wheels too)... And now allow you to get Bose...

How much are you willing to spend. I have a 2013 nismo for sale with 90 percent of the car clear bra'd so no paint chips ever and it's got a lifetime warranty on the powertrain. It has 4000 miles on it and has been garage kept. FYI on the 2013.. it has the red calipers, gunmetal rays forged wheels, gtr brake Lines and brake fluid and oem oil cooler so it is the best year nismo in my opinion.

roplusbee 01-16-2014 10:11 PM

I had every problem that they fixed on the later models. Granted, they were fixed under warranty.........but they were a bit of a pain for a "new" car and I got mine with 6 mile on it.

fuct 01-17-2014 09:04 AM

honestly i dont think places want to negotiate much on nismo's. hell i was getting letters from my dealership asking to buy mine back from me $1000 over what the kelly blue book said was a fair price.

then again if you find one in the boon-docs where they dont know what they have they might give you a good deal.

a few months back i had a guy in my apt tell me to contact him when im ready to sell mine since he couldnt find any for sale....

Just get a '14 model, once the '15 model comes out next month there will be steep discounts they can be had for below invoice.

fuct 06-03-2014 08:19 AM

plus the 14's are the ugliest model...should be able to find them on the cheap

sorry 14' owners. :P

MattyA 06-03-2014 08:48 AM

I bought a '12 pw nismo a month ago and paid 29000 with 18500miles on it. I think it was a good deal

To each his own but just out of curiosity, what is it about the '14 that seems so ugly to you? I pulled up photos of the '10 and the '14 to compare and they are essentially the same except for the grille area.

Did you not see the ugly dark gray side skirts and front lip? also the top of the spoiler is dark gray. no matter what color you buy they are all dark gray. dont forget about the silly red laser beam looking stickers on the front back and side mirrors.

and if im not mistaken the entire dark gray lip "look" originate from cheap civic owners who buy a lip kit but cant afford to get it painted to match the car. so they cruise around with the unpainted lip until it eventually falls off the car.

apparently some people think it looks good, so nissan copied it.

p.s. the silver nismo wheels look the best. dark wheels are so played out.

(see people with ugly scarfs like it) jkjk

i do like the steering wheel (even though the suide felt cheap) and the nismo logo on the back of the 2014's. ;)

KingJoseph 06-04-2014 02:44 AM

Concur... 2014 is the model year the Nismo was ruined.

I'm on my second Z (had a 350 before this), but if Nismo styling is going that way, this will be my last one...

Jordo! 06-04-2014 03:08 AM

Get the latest black book so you know the bare bones value of the car. Bring it with you as an anti-horseshit amulet.

All those details I like about the car although I wouldn't characterize them so sardonically. Like I said, to each his own. :tiphat:

agreed, to each his own:tiphat:

Never really thought about selling my Nismo its an 09 with 60k on it so the price would be pretty good if I did sell it. I also live in Houston, TX which isn't far from SA. PM me if you're interested. Fuct, the guy in ur apt. still looking for one? Lmk.

I just picked up 2010 #444 for $20k w/ 60k Miles - This is the worst possible time to shop for Sports Cars and Convertibles, You always want to buy in the dead of Winter and Sell at the start of Summer.

Bought my '07 HR 350Z during December '11 and got it down to 14k from 18k (put 2k on the top - only had to finance 12k) when they were still going for 18~22 all day.

Traded it in for the Nismo 370Z and got my 12k right back (2.5 years later), HR's still clear auctions for 12-16k here in Houston.

My advice to all HR owners, Get rid of them this summer if you still want something for them - Once the Z35 drops Z33's are going to hit rock bottom (especially DE's)

I agree, and the only way the value of the Z33 and Z34 don't drop is if the Z35looks like ****.

Rooskey 06-22-2014 02:20 AM

It has to do with the mileage. When you get over 20k your car is not worth trading. Its basically a daily driver and not worth crap. A convertable with touring and sport package is your best bet for resale.

big daddy 06-22-2014 10:45 AM

I just think you have to be patient and do a lot of shopping.

Don't be afraid to call dealers that post on Autotrader.

I bought my 2013 Nismo in February for $36,000 and it only had 1800 miles on it. It came with every upgrade they offer including the Bose, lighted door sills and back up camera. Hell I think that's all the upgrades they offer

They even added clear bra and some theft deterrent system to the car for free.

I felt like I got a great deal and that's all that matters - is how you feel after the deal is done :tiphat:
