Reasons why the next z will not lose the 6 cylinder altogether....The market. It wouldn't be so much "going with the times" as poor marketing strategy. Its not a sign of the times that toyota/subaru put out a 4 cylinder sports car, theres always been a market for 4 cylinder sports and the Z has never been aimed at that market, they had the 240 for that crowd. The Z has ALWAYS been aimed at the camaro/mustang and most recently the 370z was a cheaper alternative to the track king, the Cayman (read back to 2008 articles). The GTR was designed to beat the 911 turbo at a much cheaper price tag as well. If you ask me Ghosn is aligning more to true sports vehicles and less to what the general japanese market is doing. If recent rivals remain the target for the next gen z car I put it on a slightly lighter weight frame retaining the powerful v6 keeping it inline with the cayman. c'mon ppl give nissan and more specifically they're proven CEO a little more credit than introducing 2 new 4 cylinder models. I would be VERY surprised if there's a 4 cylinder option.

Well we might have a good idea what we'll be looking at with what they have been doing with the DIG MR16DDT DeltaWing motor, and this new DIG HR15DDT Zeod DeltaWing motor development. They have releases the specs on the Zeod HR motor, it weighs in at only 88lb, and is putting doing 400hp, and (380Nm) 280ft.lbs. of torgue out of a 1.5L three cylinder, and of course completely custom for racing.
If it is a four cylinder my guess would be you'll probably be looking at a variant of the MR20DDT. Last edited by Apollo8642; 01-30-2014 at 12:44 PM. Reason: Correcting torque 380Nm not 380ft.lbs |

![]() I'm a purest and believe only a 6 cylinder belongs in a Z myself (or a v8 like Chris Forsbergs FD car running the VK56). I'm thinking it's a possibility Nissan still might have a 6 cylinder, and option a turbo 4 cylinder like they are going to do with the Ford Mustang in 2015. I haven't been on any of the Mustang forums, but I'm sure those people are really up in arms, but at least they did have a turbo 4 cylinder in their history with the SVO Fox body back in the 80's. A sporty 4 cylinder turbo Nissan should be a Siliva in my opinion, and the new 510 (IDx) is pretty cool too. Last edited by Apollo8642; 01-30-2014 at 12:59 PM. |
