You really can't expect to come on a car forum, complain about missing extremely simple maintenance steps, and expect everyone to pat you on the back.....the car's maintenance computer is a suggestion, nothing more.. |

There is a technical service bulletin on this issue. I had the same problem and did an oil consumption test. The short block was then replaced by the dealership under warranty.

I was under the impression that was for 2009 Zs. OP's got a '12. 3 quarts in 10k miles is basically about a quart between oil changes, which most likely wouldn't meet Nissan's definition of excessive. And there's no chance of a warranty replacement with the fact that it was 10k miles since the last oil change.

Mine uses about a quart every 3k miles. I fill it to the top line when I change oil and when I change my oil at 3K miles it's at the low line. And an oil analysis each time shows that everything is ok.
10K miles, I'd love to see an oil analysis of that oil. |

It's most likely going ot be full of bearing material. It was diluted with three quarts of fresh oil, so I don't know what will show up on the UOA. My guess would be it's time to set aside a shortblock fund and hope the VVEL isn't gummed up.

I memorize exactly when i got an oil change and regular keep a mental tab of when my oil change is coming up. For example i know now i need a change in 900 miles off the top of my head. I'll prob skip the dealer this time and do it myself because dealerships are useless, i suspect they don't replace all the plastic rivets out of laziness when they put the undertray back on.
Mine burns roughly 1 qrt every few thousand miles, so i bought a 5 qrt oil container and i put some oil in it when i see that's is close to low. There was a point where i checked it once and was shocked to see it below the low mark now i keep an eye on it 10K is def to far for an oil change brah! Get that sucker changed |

Mine burns a little oil as well. I switched to 0w-40 and I only burn a little less then half a qt between oil changes.

I forgot to mention, I was talking to the mechanics at UPREV last year and they were telling me with how high our compression is, combined with high oil temps, 5w-30 thins out to much and thus we get more blow-by. I noticed when I was using Mobil 1 5w-30, I was losing about a qt every oil change. Switched to 0w-40, which doesn't thin out as much at operation temp compared to 30, which I seen a nice improvement .

I want to know too.. Funny how some are very helpful and other just want to rub sh!t in. I never wanted anyone to pat me on the back. I know its my fault and I take full responsibility. I also dont know if it was 10k miles.. I am guessing. I travel so much, work a lot of hours.. it just kept slipping my mind. I am all over the place. But I do know it wont happen again. If my car is screwed, I will just buy another one.. but I hope i dont have to go that route. |

Here's a helpful tip: MAINTENANCE: The maintenance intervals of the following items can be set or reset for the reminders. . ENGINE OIL Select this submenu to set or reset the distance for changing the engine oil. . OIL FILTER Select this submenu to set or reset the distance for replacing the oil filter. . TIRE Select this submenu to set or reset the distance for replacing tires. . OTHER Select this submenu and set or reset the distance for replacing items other than the engine oil, oil filter and tires. You can setup your car (Vehicle Information Display) to tell you when your due for your next oil change. Only takes a couple of minutes and can save you a lot of problems later. Complete information can be found on pages 2-15 through 2-22 of your owners manual. |

Thanks!! My good friend, jiuJitsu student is my mechanic at Nissan. He told me he programmed it to warn me. When I checked my oil, I went into the computer and it was blank. He has programmed it before, but it was as if the computer had no information at all. If the battery is removed does this get cleared? Anyway, I wont rely on that anymore. I will always check when I gas up and I will start writing down the miles. |

I would think so. That may be your issue.
