Exhaust Pop?
I was driving aggressively this morning and I heard what I thought was a pop coming from the stock Nismo exhaust after letting off the throttle. I cannot be sure if it came from my car or if it was some other noise on the road. I didn't think the stock exhaust was aggressive enough to make popping or gurgling sounds. Does anyone else experience these sounds from the stock exhaust?

The popping sound I think you're referring to is caused by unburned fuel getting past the combustion chamber and igniting inside the exhaust pipe. I got it a lot in my old Viper and Z06, both of which had aftermarket cams. Usually occurred while decelerating on a down shift. Never had it occur with my Nismo (stock).

It could be just back pressure related and I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. When I had a single 3" exhaust with oem cats, it amplified it. Whenever I went WOT then let off, there would be a lot of gurgling and popping noises.

ive heard it once or twice on my car too. i think it sounds cool :)

I took off the rear muffler and have that sound all the time with the gurgling sound. It makes panties drop :icon23:

Watch any road-racing series (Grand Am, American Lemans, etc.) especially at night.
All cars do it. It's normal unless of course it becomes a monstrous boom. |
I pop all the time with stock cats and short tails! I love it! But i don't like too much of it.

Yeah I know it's not a bad noise. I've heard it on my Z28 Camaro and Firebird Formula after letting off the throttle after hard acceleration. I was just surprised to hear it on the Nismo. Thought it would be too restrictive.
Very glad to hear the noise, have much more respect for the exhaust :) |

you tend not to hear it with the stock muffler but if you did aam short tails or something, you will hear the car pop like no tomorrow, completely normal

My dts pops and snarls every single time i decel, like clock work. So now i find myself downshifting a lot for stop lights instead of just putting the clutch in JUST so i can hear it sound like a bad ***.

Sry unrelated to OP post..... but fuct u reminded me of a question ive wanted to ask a LONG TIME. Related to the answer u just gave. Awhile back we all know this car has a serious CSC /masterC problem. That being said not EVERYONE has had it. My question is, how do u drive ur z? Do u hold the clutch the whole time at a red light? Do u down shift on way to stops? Do u take it out of gear while stopped? Do u baby engage the clutch or fast shift? I honestly believe there is a 100% connection between some of these, and premature csc failure. Mainly for those who constantly hold the clutch down or stay in gear at stop lights, signs, and traffic. I did that in my 09 and it failed. Now i dont do that anymore and my 13 hasnt failed yet and im past my 09s miles.....so far so good? I try not to engage the clutch AT ALL until im ready to make the car move. And i used to baby the clutch a lot, now i try to make engagement as short as possible without being rough with it.
