Yeah, it's not like it's a bad upgrade. You might make some money back too, once you get the old one out and take a look at it. Someone with a really fried clutch will take it off your hands.

I've found the stock clutch to be very stout actually

If I jumped the gun, its ok.. I have money.

Give me a couple weeks to get it all set up and I will let you all know how it works out.

Nothing wrong with an aftermarket clutch! If you can buy it, then do what makes you happy. :tiphat:

With all due respect, don't rule out the possibility of driver error. You don't typically beat on the car, so with your adrenaline pumping you may have made a mistake.

Also, don't mess with bikes, #1 they have no protective shell around them if you or they screw up, and #2 you stand no chance against even a 600cc bike.

This.

I have a CBR600RR and a Nismo and, while I love my Z, the rate of acceleration is not even close. Depending on which publication you believe, the 0-60 time for that bike is anywhere from high 2s to low 3s... even a second longer and it'd still handily embarrass most cars.

I know all this. I have had bikes too. My friends have bike. Its not even in the same category.. The guy was smiling and waving me on and I just thought it would be fun. I already know i was going to lose.. but its still fun. Now after what the other guy said about safety for the biker, i wont do it again. If he fell and I hit him, im done!! Not worth it. I have respect for all bikers and always move out of their way.

the transmission in the Z is fantittyfuckintastic but the clutch is a flaming piece of ****. I remember glazing my 09 clutch after about 5 passes up the 1/4 mile driving it like you would expect a 45k car to. since then I quickly learned what you can and cant do without repercussion with this car. prepare yourself, plenty of other parts they cheaped out on.... cough cough slave cylinder.....

chii370 07-31-2013 07:28 PM

I think the new clutch purchase was a little premature as others have said. When i had my 09 i did the hard launch thing until i got it out of my system and i COOKED that thing putting it down the 1/4 mile with an amature launch about 4 times. you could smell it 20 feet from the car. then about 20k miles later my slave cylinder went out like they always do, and i had the tech look at the clutch and it was fine. no glazing at all. it takes a LOT of abuse to seriously damage a composite clutch, even single plate.

its all good man.. I will install it later down the road.

The clutch is a friction device at the end of the day and if you "ride it" at high RPMS, it will start to smell/burn. This is true with any clutch. You probably wore away a tiny bit of material, i don't think there was anything wrong with it. I don't know whether it was driver error or if your clutch slipped due to an issue with the clutch, but either way the burning smell is something you want to avoid but its no biggie if it happens once.

When i was learning to drive stick in my Tiburon, uphill, i "rode" the clutch as i went up this hill and you could smell it

I understand.. But I have been driving since I was 14 years old, I am 41 now. Learned how to drive a clutch first. I have never had a clutch slip that bad until i was about 130k miles on my 99 Eclipse GST. I have never smelled that either. Im not used to a clutch doing anything bad until at least 50-60k miles on it. And I thought I knew how to pop the clutch just fine from a stand still.. I wish I could go back and see what i did wrong..

Maybe it was because I just drove the car 7 straight hours from Tahoe? I dont know.
