New Tires

Could not find a thread on this..

I bought new back tires for my car.. and it doesnt matter what kind, but just in case someone decides to ask, I bought the same brand that came with the car. Yokohama 285/35 zr19

Anyway, I was watching them take the tires off the rim. On the inside of the RIM where the tire sat, there was a stamp with the Letter "R" on it. I assume that means Right side?

But Why would it matter what side the rim is put on? Or does it? I couldnt tell if they even paid attention to that or not.. Does anyone know?

thanks

I believe the R stands for rear since we have staggered stance.
