Simple nismo question

I'm in the market to get a 370z nismo my only concern is the ride height, how low does a stock nismo z sit? I'd hate to buy it and not even be able to pull into my driveway

UPDATE:
I bought a nismo and so far ive only drug once in my driveway but not real bad although i do have to take a very sharp angle and go very slow

SPOHN 06-22-2013 09:20 PM

It's not the ride height exactly that's the concern but how low the body on the car is. Which I can't tell you.

Vichtz 06-22-2013 09:30 PM

You'll be fine. But youre gonna have to learn to pie everything when you pull in/out of any sloped area. Thats just the trade off for having a bad *** sports car as your daily driver. BUT ITS SO ******* WORTH IT

stevent85 06-22-2013 10:23 PM

The height isnt that bad. You do need to watch out for steep driveways and monster speedbumps. If you decide to drop the car with springs or coilovers.....thats another story. I wouldnt worry too much with factory height though. Just slow it down on speedbumps and driveways.

lol my vette scrapes on EVERYTHING

measurement from the front using a square, the front lip is 6'' off the ground. From there, the plastic cover slowly dips lower. At about 1ft back from the front of the lip; I can stick a 2x4 standing on the high side with about 1' clearance before I hit anything.

Raven_32 06-23-2013 12:22 AM

Awesome Thax 90% of my driving is on the highway my driveway and a few rough spots on the road leading to my house was the only big deal but when I go to vist my family in ky that might be a different story lol

OP unless your driveway is a 45 degree angle, you will be fine

you will learn to crab around for the extreme driveways

olddudesrule 06-23-2013 11:46 AM

You'll be fine. Like Shadoquad said above, my last two cars had a much tougher time (Z06 and Viper), and both of them were doable. The Nismo, specifically the front chin spoiler, sits quite a bit higher than either of the others. I'm also lowered on Swift springs, and haven't had any real issues.

Now parking lot curbing, that's a different story.......

cooltoy 06-23-2013 12:23 PM

I don't think a Nismo is any lower then the non-Nismo models.

The car itself isnt lower. Its the body kit that makes it closer to the ground....mainly the front bumper.

DarkJak 06-23-2013 01:07 PM

The biggest difference is that the front splitter part sticks out much more than the regular bumper because it is flat vs rounded up. So it'll scrape at a lower angle incline than normal. At stock height, it shouldn't be a problem though. At worst, you'll have to approch some spots at an angle.

DEpointfive0 06-23-2013 01:12 PM

Honestly, HONESTLY, know you're gonna scrape, and live your life

nmjaxx9 06-23-2013 01:53 PM

Just drive like a granny. For the driveway get the ramps. :)

It is, its .9in lower than a 370z with sports package. There are a few threads here documenting that.

KingJoseph 06-23-2013 05:25 PM

There are some driveways that I cannot make into at all. Most I can approach at an angle, but I picked up a girl for a date and I just happened to ask if she had a steep driveway. She said, "Actually I do..." and I was going to bring my SUV, but I ended up bringing the Nismo 'cause, well, yeah. :) Anyway, I took that thing at the most conservative angle possible and cleared the nose, but had I traveled another inch or two forward, I would have been high centered. I parked it and walked to her door, haha.

I've actually managed to never scrape on anything up to this point... but that one was seriously close to being catastrophic.

Almost an inch? I don't think so. At most it would be .4 inches but I installed a Nismo shock/spring set on my Base/Sport and it actually lifted my front a little. Rear was exactly the same.

No, definitely not true. The fender gap between the Nismo and the Non-Nismo is about the same. I measure it everytime I meet up with new 370z local members. It almost becomes my hobby now. LOL. So yeah, I can tell you the ride height is about the same. But since the Nismo front is longer and doesn't go upwards up front like the non-nismo front, it makes the nismo closer to the groud and far more easier to get scraped.

OP, to give you the precise data on the nismo front,

The lowest points which are the two edges of the front spoiler are exactly the iPhone 4 length which is 4.5 inches off of the ground stock height. I know it because I measured it resently for possible future sale.

To be honest, you will be fine with most of the speed bumps. But you WILL scrape when you get on/off the incline. Even 30 degrees. Drive slow and angle it will be your best bet.

just an update on this i bought a nismo and so far ive only drug once in my driveway but not real bad although i do have to take a very sharp angle and go very slow

Feeling that diagonal offset where only one back wheel is touching is the craziest thing.

I have a really steep driveway.

Slam128 02-01-2014 03:21 AM

Don't worry about scraping too much...you'll scrape...if the bottom plastic piece gets too scraped up, it's replaceable.

Hotrodz 02-01-2014 11:14 AM

I wore a hole in the OEM undertray...now I have a ZSpeed...it's aluminum!

They are $399 from ZSpeed but if you aren't in a hurry you can get a used one for about that.

I just ordered a 2014 Nismo 370Z. One of the mods I'm having installed at the dealer before I drive it off the lot is a ZSpeed aluminum engine undershroud. Also had one installed on the 350Z I sold before buying the new car.

Make sure you keep the OEM nismo undertray. They are $1000+ just for that plastic piece. Even if you don't use it you could sell it on the forum. People will fight for it if the price is right.

Elan 03-02-2014 08:20 PM

Also remember that while it's not so much lower than a regular Z, it has a longer bumper which really makes it an issue.

Yes getting use to the longer front end is the only issue I've had I've pretty much got the feel of it now

Oh just wait until you are pulling out of a commercial driveway and have to cut it at such an angle, you block the whole thing! I've gotten many dirty looks, but gotta protect our baby. You will scrape though. Expect it and accept it. :p

2011 Nismo#91 03-03-2014 10:46 AM

The Nismo is a bit closer to the ground but that's not really an issue people have lowered the standard 370 and not have had issues. The problem the way I see it is the front bumper sticks out a lot further than the standard 370, which is why normal race ramps for maintenance don't work without extensions.
