Dealer wants $1200 for clear bra!

I wonder if I'll get dinner before they bend me over.

I'll be looking elsewhere, needless to say. Meanwhile, my front will continue to chip.

Ugh!

Plasti-dip

Try better the plastidip. They come in various colors. Its rubber not paint. search youtube about it. costs about $20/can but need to apply 3 to 4 coats.

I am thinking to install it on my white nismo to protect the front bumper with a white plasti-dip color. Will post pictures if I decide to do it.

It's $6-8 a can

Plasti dip makes their own clear coat as well.

I would shop around for a place that installs clear bras. The dealer by my house wants $300 installed using 3M

Huck 03-23-2013 11:25 AM

My dealership wanted $650 for the front bumper, half hood, and quarter panels. Move on and look for a better deal.

Wow, those are both really good deals

Wonka2581 03-23-2013 07:42 PM

Let me correct my post it's 300 for the front bumper only, hood and fenders is another 350.

cv129 03-23-2013 08:27 PM

Op, can you confirm the below?

-what areas are the clear bra covering?
-is it covering the entire hood/nose/etc
-is it custom type job where the bra wraps around the edges or the type that's precut and will show the clear bra edges when looked

$1200 could turn out to be a good deal or a bust pending some detail. But given that it's a dealership, it's probably like the others have described.

And seems like 650 is kinda the standard dealership price for the precut ones...I also remember seeing that when I test drove a z in the dealership.

Huck 03-24-2013 12:37 AM

Yeah that's the only thing I don't like about mine is the fact that it's pre-cut. I actually may take it off the hood and quarter panels and redo it myself with some new clear bra and wrap the edges. The only thing I wouldn't be able to do would be the front bumper.

The OP has a Nismo so all the quotes from non Nismo owners are always going to be less. The Nismo front bumper is one of the hardest to do and uses more film than 95% of other cars on the road. $1200 isn't a bad price if there doing the bumper, full hood, full fenders and mirrors. But if they are just doing the partial hood and fenders look elsewhere. And remember that the clear bra will never be put on perfect, it's nearly impossible to not have some imperfection.

My full hood, bumper and headlights cost $1100. But I went with the Xpel film and not the venture shield. Xpel is a cool product that you should look into. It does cost more but it has a kind of self healing thing going on.

Found a place that did mine (half hood, front bumper, side bumpers, mirror caps, & rocker panels) for $650. They are redoing the front bumper next week though...it's pretty difficult to wrap.

clear bra

I bought my clear bra from this website called clear defender for about 300$ and it is the same 3M scotchguard material they sell at the dealers it covered the front bumper, hood, mirrors, and fenders. I installed it myself and can say it came it out pretty good. It does take a bit of time and patience because of the curvature of the front bumper and like someone else posted the clear bras when installed will have some minor imperfections which are not really noticeable. I just followed the videos they provided on the website. Before I applied the bra I fixed the existing chips on the bumper and hood with DR colorchip which worked really well. I am very happy with my clear bra and the protection it provides for my nismo. I also want to mention that this was the first clear bra I have ever put on and I am glad i don't have to worry about rock chips ruining my bumper anymore.

Do not buy clear bra through a dealer!!!

When I purchased my Z, I knew I wanted to have it clearbra'd asap living in AZ, rocks are everywhere. I happened to mention it to the dealer, and they said yup, we do that. So I asked to have them do it prior to me taking the car home so it would be brand new. No problem, what did I want done?

I asked for:

FULL Front bumper
FULL Hood
FULL Fenders
FULL Mirrors

That it not be "visible", I don't want to see the bra.

No problem they said, $1k. I had this added to my loan to be financed as after putting $3k down I didn't have another $1k to drop. Again, no problem.

Fast forward to the next afternoon, they call me to come pick it up that it was done. Show up, what is done:

PARTIAL Front bumper - Doesn't go over the edges, and doesn't cover the fangs
PARTIAL Hood - Only the first 1/3 of the hood, doesn't go over the edges
PARTIAL Fenders - Only covers to the end of the headlights, then stops, doesn't cover the edges
PARTIAL Mirrors - Only covers half the mirrors and doesn't go to the edges

And you can BLATANTLY see the edges. Which is even worse considering my car is black. I looked at it and ad the dealer, and he's like What'dya think?!!

I said :wtf: is this?! It doesn't cover the whole front end and you can see EVERYTHING!! On top of that, after a closer look, there is actually debris trapped underneath the bra!
Which means they didn't even clean the car off before applying it.

To say the least I was

They said, this is what we do? We have a shop near by that does it for us at a "good rate". I showed them the "we owe" slip saying Full front end clear bra, $1k. They said then whoever did that didn't do it right because they only do this front 1/3 because it's cut from a printer off of a template of the car.

So I asked, then I want it removed and I'll have it done at a REAL CB shop. They said it's highly recommended NOT to remove clearbra once applied as it will take off the clearcoat and possibly the paint as well. To which would triple the cost to redo.

So not only do I have an inferior product that covers 1/3 of the area I wanted, I checked later at other shops for pricing of what I wanted done, and it would have been in the area of $600. :shakes head:

Moral of the Story: Don't do CB through a dealer, go to an actual Clear Bra Installer. If you don't know of any around you, Google it, or talk to window tinting shops as the process is very similar and they should know some contacts.

Realale 04-03-2013 12:02 AM

There is no way any installer can properly install the bra around all corners. It has to have rounded corners and fold over the edges.
