There's a shop that used to post on here that did it all 100% by hand and did cover all the edges. Took a while to do it properly, but that's how they built their reputation.

> Complete Hood > Front Bumper > Front Fenders > Rocker Panels > 'A' Pillars > Mirrors > Rear Quarters > Headlights > Area Behind Rear Wheels The local guy came to the house on a Saturday and it took him about 8 hours to complete. I didn't want any seams showing, so all of the areas covered ended where there was a seam or end of panel. This guy was a real artist as you can not tell where the bra starts or finishes. He quoted me another $1100 to do the rest of the car, but I have not decided whether or not to get it done.

I work here at Porsche, we clear film almost all of our cars at the customers request. We do full hood (one piece), full bumper, full fenders, mirrors, door handles and spot by the rear tires. We charge 1400 installed and it is dam good.
The person who told you cant remove it is full of it. You can pull it hard and just remove it yourself. The paint and clearcoat will be fine. You will most likely be left with some glue on the paint which will need to be cleaned up, just a little bit of elbow grease.. If you want to remove it, heating it with a hairdryer or heatgun, taking care not to overheat it helps a lot..

I'm also worried about having a 2 tone hood after removing it from the different UV wearing on the paint after 3 years and 2 of them in Phoenix sun.

i just payed $860 for full tint, and the Xpel paint protectant film. The Xpel covered the entire front bumper, front chin, 12-16" of the hood, and the fronts of the side mirrors, along with the A-pillars on each side of the windshield.

lol i just bought full front bumper, fenders, mirrors, and full hood 3m precut kits from clearbra-kits.com and it ran me 280 bucks. put that **** on yourself. its NOT hard. if you have ever tinted windows, and know how to BE PATIENT AND TAKE YOUR TIME its easy as ****. its just like that xzilon **** at the dealer. my neigbor is a detailer, he GAVE me one of those kits they sell to customers for like 890$ and it took me like.... maybe an hour to put it on the car. looks fantastic, and there is no reason on earth for it to cost that much.
even if you put the bra on as slow and perfect as physically possible, it would still only take you a couple hours to do. dont let the dealership do ANYTHING for you. its their job to be scam artists. |

I had the dealer (apparently highly recommended on this forum) do mine. Price was ok. I would have done it locally, but I was flying in to get the car and didn't want a bunch of rock chips on the drive home. The job was done well enough, apart from several crappy seams and a couple spots where it's obvious they half-assed the cleaning pre-application. The issue was they installed the front plate against my specific instructions and now I have two holes in the bumper and two spots where the clear bra is messed up. To make matters worse, they sent me home with the "we owe" ticket, but told me they would not honor it when I called two months later due to some sort of "management change". F those guys. The tint they installed is peeling off the corner of the passenger window, and the "lifetime" warranty Steve the sales guy was so proud of was void the moment I left the state. Other than that, I'm glad the clear bra was done, as it's saved me from some nasty chips, but I would recommend having a GOOD place handle it.

im going to be installing it myself on saturday. all of it. with proper attention to detail, slow procedural steps. doing each step to the best of your abilities, i without a shadow of a doubt believe that anyone.... ANYONE can install a clear bra and have it turn out fantastic. clean the car properly, learn WTF to do before hand with lots of research and vids, use the proper materials and take your damn time. it takes a squirt bottle with 30% "70-91%" isopropylene alcohol 70% water. and another with 100% water and 4-5 dime drops of johnson/johnson baby wash.
it is applied EXACTLY like window tint. clean the **** out of the area. drench the area AND the bra with the baby bottle, and put it on the car. the soap makes it slide around easy with just the lightest touch. then you line it up where you want and start to apply enough pressure to push water under the film but not enough to stretch the material. and do this in small section, 4-6 inches, them peal it back lightly and spray the alcohol mix between the bra and car and squigee it again the same way. all the alcohol does is eliminate the soap so the bra will stick to the car. make sure its lined up BEFORE you spray the alcohol on it or its a ******* nightmare to get it off, involves heat. other than that, its honestly very straight fwd and easy. a little solution under the bra wont matter "TINY AMOUNTS" but air does. if you cant do this then OMFG dont try to change your oil, this is about that hard "sarcasm implied" |

just put mine on myself. it was a rather humbling experience. nothing i said in my previous post is UNTRUE..... but i do take back that anyone could do this. turns out its pretty god damn hard, took me like 7 hours to do it and it looks nice, but not perfect. there are a couple spots where **** got under the bra. but it does look better than it did before, and now at least its protected from lifes ********. prolly leave it on for about a year or so to justify the effort i put into putting the pain in the *** on there, then rip it off and have a professional do it lol. i now fully understand why it costs 1200+ to have a FULL kit installed...... its a nightmare. do this for a living? no thanks lol

I had mine installed for $1450. Front bumper, full hood, full front fenders and rear view mirrors. Film was venture shield. From what I read it was a little pricey but the guy did a pretty good job, you can't really tell there is a clear bra on.

also, just for ANYONE curious about this. if your car ALREADY has paint damage and chips, if you do minor touch-up it sort of half *** hides it, but then if you put a clear bra on AFTER that...... you cant see the damage at all until your face is literally 4 inches from the car. it hides the pre existing damage incredibly well, and ive been informed by several professional installers "i consulted prior to doing it myself" and they said as long as you didnt do a half *** job applying the touch-up paint, when the bra is removed it will NOT tear the new paint out of the chips.

Local detail shop quoted me $620 for nose, hood, door edges, mirrors. Pre-cut 3M Scotchguard. 5 year warranty against yellowing or peeling. I was persuaded to go with the Scotchguard by internet reputation, installer recommendation (he also I stalks Ventureshield and Xpel), and videos like this one.
