stock nismo sways vs s tune nismo sways

hey guys,

just a thing to note for future reference. our nismo sways are the same as the s-tune nismo sways that have an MSRP of nearly $700. i purchased a set from Z1 since they were cheap on the off chance that our stock sways were in fact the same as the sport/base sways. finally had a chance to put the z up today and measure the sways (although i shouldve done that before i bought them) and they measure the same.

unconvinced, i removed the front sway, weighed them and measured them with a caliper and they were the exact same save for some tool accuracy.

i did quite a bit of searching on the forum before buying them though, and while some evidence suggested our stock nismo sways were upgraded from the sport/base, there wasnt any concrete evidence. now there is, at least from my findings. anyway, for any sport/base owners looking at this, who wants some cheap sways?

z1's notes:

OEM (sport/base)
Front: 26.5mm
Rear: 24.2mm

NISMO S-Tune
Front: 27.0mm
Rear: 25.4mm

MY NISMO:
Front: 27.0mm
Rear: 25.5mm

anyone else have thoughts?

I bought these also from Z1 during their Black Friday sale. I too weighed our stock front sway bar and the S-Tune bar and they were the same weight.... I'm wondering if these aftermarket Nismo sway bars are the same as OEM, just painted a different color with a Nismo sticker on it???

FairladyZ 12-09-2012 10:20 PM

yikes!

Somene needs to compare these to a stock Z non nismo now. and see

If its an improvement over mine Id take them off your hands.

Wow that's pretty nuts

chops 12-09-2012 11:04 PM

yea if anyone else can confirm (thanks MJB so far) i will let them go for 210 + ship (i paid 240 shipped). or 220 picked up. pics with name will come before i sell of course :)

Well this answers my question as to whether or not to switch to Whiteline :)

Thanks!

yup! i should've went whiteline since the beginning, but its ok i guess. on one side im disappointed, on the other, im happy we have upgraded sways already!

Gains don't justify buying whitelines if you already have the nismo sways imo unless you are a ~serious racecar driver~ (which I am not)

For sake of comparison, what is the wall thickness of your NISMO Sway Bars (not the S-Tune ones you purchased)?? This is where the NISMO S-Tune way bars get their added strength without having to increase the physical diameter of the tubing. There should be a difference in thickness.

To find this out, measure the thickness of the flange where the end links attach. OEM style sway bars are formed by stamping a hollow tube. The thickness of this flange will indicate whether or not they are indeed an upgrade for the NISMO.

let me check that tonight. i definitely did not measure the flange. only the diameter of the tubes at various points and overall weight

sorry about the delay guys. had a chance to measure the flanges tonight. measurements below:

end link flange diameter:

NISMO S-Tune - 9 mm
Stock NISMO 370z - 8.8 mm

with the added paint from the nismo s-tune sways versus the stock nismo 370z sways im guessing these are IDENTICAL. theres honestly no evidence to suggest these are any different than what we get from the stock nismo 370z. i will therefore be selling these. any takers?

and if the weight is identical (or near enough) i can't see how they are different

yep. theres literally nothing else that says they arent the same, minus the paint

same weight, same diameter, same flange diameters, painted vs bare black

I wonder if anyone has compared these to even the base models

Z1 has stats on it but I'm still curious
