THANK YOU... for the honesty. The more homework I do, the more it seems obvious that I can probably expect to break even or net a few horsepower at best. For the sound and weight loss, it may be worth it... but I want to have realistic expectations about the performance gains or lack thereof. While this has been alluded to in other threads, I'm not sure it's been stated as succinctly as this. Quote:

Yep, that is about what I spent for my upgrades.
$500 still cold air intake $500 FI test pipes $1800 FI exhaust, carbon fiber mufflers $5-600 UpRev tune.. I know these are not exact prices, but they are close. Anyone think I will hit 400HP? |

Performance wise here is some info on the nismo exhaust. two different nismo exhaust????? (nismo car ver and S-tune ver?) The base Z is 332hp The Nismo exhaust adds about 8hp alone. So the Nismo's Tune adds the other 10 to get to 350hp. So saying the FI exhaust addes 20hp to a Z seems about right, 10hp (as apposed to 8hp) or so because it's slightly larger and less restrictive with the other 10hp coming form the Tune. So you better really like that sound because your paying alot of money for 2hp and losing a lot on selling a used exhaust. |

On either a regular 370z or NISMO 370z a change of the exhaust system does not warrant a tune. Getting a tune will yield next to no gains in the higher rpms. Maybe under the curve but not the total. The tune is only important when you start talking about CAI, CBE, HFC, etc in combinations. Now 7-12hp for the 1600+ the exhaust costs is a bit expensive vs. gaining 15-20 for a regular 370z. But you are definitely getting more than 2hp gain. Plus the NISMO exhaust is just way too quiet. But yes, the NISMO gains 7-8hp from the exhaust, the rest comes from the tune and part of that is a higher redline. Even a stock 332hp Z, if you raised the redline to equal that of the NISMO it would rate at a higher hp reading. Nissan cut the rpm to protect the engine but stock dyno graphs show the HP line still trending up typically past redline. |
