Nismo Tow Hook

I wanted/needed a tow hook for the Nismo. Seeing that nobody sold one FOR the Nismo. I did the next best thing. I bought one for the 370z and modded it to fit the Nismo. I got it from these guys. And this is what it looks like installed. Too short. :icon14:

So I got a local machine shop to make me a longer thread shaft. It's 2 1/4" longer. :D

I was just looking to do the same thing. How much did they charge you?

DEpointfive0 09-25-2012 10:49 PM

Why didn't you have them cut it, add a spacer and reweld it? I'm sure that would be cheaper, and if they can weld worth a damn, it shouldn't be weakened...

The company I work for does business with that shop. So they took care of me.

I'm "Ballin". :D
You can adjust the tension on it with a set screw so that it does flop.

Get a red one and paint it to gold.:p

scruffydog 12-28-2012 11:03 AM

If you don't mind can you provide the overall length and travel length you ended up with for the Nismo bumper? I am thinking of doing the same.

http://images2.mcmaster.com/Contents...g?ver=22953321

Also do you by any chance know the pitch for the tread (i.e. M10)

Thanks!

Rusty 12-28-2012 01:09 PM

I'm at work right now. So it won't be until late tonight for the specs. Or if you already have a hook. Just get a machine shop to make you a copy of the shaft, but 2 1/4" longer. That's what I did. ;)

scruffydog 12-28-2012 02:32 PM

Thank you so much for the help. I actually don't have a tow hook yet so I was gonna machine one from scratch. I could buy one and modify like you but I have a machine shop that owes me a favor and wouldn't mind having them do the whole thing for me. If its not too much trouble to provide me the lengths I can prolly get the thread size from my stock tow hook. Did you make it out of Stainless steel?

Rusty 12-28-2012 03:09 PM

Like you. The machine shop I used owned me a favor. Stainless was going to cost me though. So I ended up getting it made from carbon steel. They polished it up. And I clear coated it. LOL You need to get the inside diameter of the hook you are going to use. If I give you that, and you get a hook with a different inside diameter. Think you might get pissed. When I get home. I'll give you the length. ;)

I got mine awhile ago and had Mike powdercoat it for me. Looks great! It's a perfect color match with my wheels too. Once it warms up here and stops raining when I'm off I'll be washing the Z and I'll be posting pics :) A little dirty right now to get pics taken lol.

Here are a few of my newest shots of the Z. Again I want to give Mike from the Forum big props for powder coating my tow hook. He did a great job, it was quick turnaround time and was competitive pricing. Also as you can see it's the exact same color as my wheels. Thanks again Mike!

HMMMMM looks good, but it won't fit a Nismo. ;)

jooonnn 01-20-2014 05:05 PM

i searched for a good while trying to find a non-diy solution for those of us without access to machine shops (nismo specific)

Performance Auto Parts Warehouse, Installation, and Dyno Tuning | PTUNING.COM (877-788-6464)

i plan to order one soon!

pen 01-23-2014 09:41 PM

Nice find, thanks for sharing! Pls let us know your impression of the tow hook.

It would be very much weakened! No matter how good the welding is, it would no longer be a solid bar, but just connected around its circumference.

These tow rings barely look good for the track, not sure why it would be left on for daily driving.

blak max 05-01-2017 07:06 PM

I'm also looking for a shop to make a replacement

Hotrodz 05-02-2017 08:29 AM

I got mine from PT Tuning...it is expensive but it looks good and you can buy their camera mounting system which is pretty slick as well.

Chuckles 05-02-2017 09:41 AM

I would second the PT Tuning Tow hooks. I have one that works great as well. They don't need to be modified to fit the bumper which is huge plus

That strap flapping around is going to scratch up your paint real quick. I wouldn't use it.
