Default Video of Nismo wing aero testing

Made this video to examine airflow over the rear and see how efficient the Nismo wing is. Thought some of you may find it interesting.
Working on testing other areas of the car and developing new parts...

Sorry if the video looks choppy, it happened after uploading.

Mind explaining this to those of us that are not aero engineers?

it would be interesting to see a comparo of a base model without wing.

it means that the airflow is going over the rear wing, and not over the hatch area since the threads there are kind of just laying still, where as the threads on the wing are basically having their hair blow back. it shows where the air is going over the car. makes it more stable by pushing down on the wing, instead of causing turbulence on the rear end (i think)

One morning i had alot of dew droplets all over my car, and drove to work, and looked at the rear view mirror and as all the droplets were flinging off the car, i got to witness a wind tunnel effect perfectly. As far as i could see, the wing was working as it should, because the droplets were hitting it and shooting up in the air like a rooster tail effect. The wing comes off the hatch area, and hits into the wing and shoots off of it. Its not slick (reduces cd), but pushes the a$$ down on the ground as it should. Cool vid!

I have a basic knowledge and understand both of your comments already. Mwhit you basically said what was seen and expalined already in the video. I guess what I should of asked was:

According to your results is the wing functioning up to par? Or could a cost effective solution be made to correct any problems? Do you want the air stagnant in front of the wing flowing to it? Would a roof diffuser help in any way?

I do not know much about aero parts but I would assume a roof diffuser would keep the air flowing over the car in a better patern to transfer to the rear wing during a corner?

A roof spoiler would negate the wing...

Great video

Edit:

With this known info what parts are you planning on making? A 4-6 inch riser I think would be cool visually and aerodynamically part!

I started a thread over on the 350Z forums for our Nismo wing!

Also a lot of this has been done on the 240z chassis which can be translated to our chassis in a sense of what works and what doesn't!

I may not be calling it the proper name, but I definitely did not mean a roof spoiler. No kidding that would deflect the wind upward. Who would of thought?

Anyway for someone who reads and comprehends my post this is an effective design.
For someone that understands the airflow dynamics of the 370z.
Would this be of any benefit to us?

Thanks for posting this. The nismo wing is very well designed for what it is.

Another section this would be useful and effective testing I'd like to see would be along the front nose to the sides, where canards are usually placed. The gain from a a true canard is from a swirling turbulance created along the open wheel well, reducing drag by discouraging further air from entering the high-pressure area. Dive planes by themselves are not often efficient in the drag they create.

Every time I look at the nismo nose I can't help but see the resemblance in aero design to a canard effect. There is a reason you see the same design on all of the Nissan SuperGT cars (GT-R too).

Another area to examine: our oversized mirrors. What are they doing for or against us? I have a suspicion they help reduce drag caused by running with open windows (a motorsports staple).

Gotta give credit to the engineering behind our [relatively cheap] cars.

I have aero testing footage of some other parts of the car, just need to edit and upload...

And to answer someone's question, yes the plan is to get some parts made to improve aerodynamics.
