Vented Carbon Fiber hoods

I would love to put a CF vented hood on my Z but I need proof that the hood is lighter then the stock one.

Any cf hood laid wet will not be lighter than the stock hood, only reason I added the vented hood is to release engine heat at the track, if I wanted to drop weight then you have to go with a dry cf hood it was just too much money.......

I'm hesitant to say you are wrong, but I think you may be wrong. It doesn't matter if you use dry carbon fiber or wet lay. If you use resin infusion (vacuum bag to pull resin) you will end up with near the same result. Dry will be slightly better, I want to pull attention to the word SLIGHTLY. Unless you are doing 24 hour le mans, you won't need the weight difference between a good resin infusion wet lay and dry CF. To the quoted posters benefit, there is a lot of shitty wet lay carbon fiber stuff out there(supposedly, I don't know this from experience).

Also I'm almost certain a pure CF hood is lighter than the stock hood. Otherwise, why do all RC's use CF? The CF/FG hybrid is probably NOT lighter than the original hood. Same with CF/Kevlar hybrid. But pure CF should be, substantially so.

my statement is for hoods such as Seibon, VIS etc for their wet hoods...... which most people in the forums would buy and not pay 2-4 times more for a dry hood......., pretty much regular aftermarket hoods that you search online are not pure CF hoods.. hence why I said pretty much any wet hood vs dry hood will be heavier to a regular consumers like us............

Sorry for the delay.. just now seeing this. The body shop that put the lexan glass on for me fcuked it up. They caked it on there with glue...I do not recommend doing that. I had another body shop remove it and it looks a lot better without the lexan glass. Im not sure what else to use to cover the vents besides the mesh. Here's a before and after picture

Daaaamn...I was expecting the hood to be maybe 17-18lbs but not 21. Not a huge increase but still a lot if you are trying to save weight or at least keep it equal. It is tough though with our hood being all aluminum and being 16lbs already. You either go dry CF or modify the stock hood.

VIS CF Vented Hood painted OEM BLack. Pain in the @$$ to detail the engine bay after every single wash. But dang does it help cool the engine bay so well. Fitment is 90% spot on as well

Also MUCH MUCH MUCH lighter than stock. Granted in order to get a REAL full CF hood your gonna pay out the @$$. But VIS wraps CF over fiberglass so its extremely light. I needed two people to get the OEM hood off but only one person was needed to put the CF hood on. Honestly the weight wasn't even noticeable when installing
