thanks man, a glossy black would look sick too. Not sure if it would give the look you are looking for but just fyi someone in that thread mentioned that Plasti Dip also makes a clear coat.

Those are just tinted stock taillights

I took it to a Shop today and they said they would try to get as close to the oem MB paint as the could for only 500 bucks and some change, which i thought was a pretty good deal. But with plastidip if you dont like it you could go back..

Did you spray them or they just an overlay??

The taillights? It is just an overlay but Idk from where since it was done by the previous owner.

Is that 500 for powdercoating or paint?

Paint and Clearcoat. They said powdercoat would chip to easy but said if i wanted powdercoat it would be around 300 and some change. Im leaning more towards the paint and clearcoat though.. i dont think powdercoating would be glossy enough for me.

Hmmmm... Idk man that sounds completely opposite to me. I'm fairly sure that powdercoating is much more durable than paint and holds up better when you get your tires replaced. And also I tbouht powder coat is generally more expensive...

Maybe someone else can chime in if I'm wrong

That is so backwards! The body shop I use for all of my work sends me wheels to powdercoat for them because its so much more durable. If they don't properly cure it, it won't hold up, but properly cured, powdercoat is much much more durable than paint any day.

I can powdercoat a piece of aluminum foil and then bend it in half and undo it it all day long and it won't crack.

and as for powdercoat not being glossy, that is wrong too. This is powdercoat, and its glossy:

btw, I'm not looking for wheel work, I keep busy enough with calipers, just trying to correct some misconceptions.

Hey man I ordered my aftermarket wheels a month or so ago and wanted matte black but they were out of stock so the company powdercoated a silver set for me for $200 more. The reason I say this is, I got them to powdercoat them gloss black and they are awesome. I love my powdercoated gloss black wheels. It's def. glossy enough. I thought powdercoating was better also. Oh well haha if its not, they look sick.

Thanks for all the info guys since i am new to the whole painting experience! Im glad i didnt leave it there for them to do yet. Im gonna give the guy i talked earlier today at the shop a call tmr and question him about what he told me. We have had Mike powdercoat a few sets of NISMO wheels for us in the past for customers.

Here is an Old iPhone picture so you get the idea. Black wheels look good on just about ANY color in my opinion.
