Nismo diff cover

Has anyone installed a NISMO DIFF cover on their NISMOZ? Dealership wanted $600 to install, due to they said "we have to drop the rear axle to install the part". The only thing I can figure is due to the extra braces that are installed on the NISMO. I have not jacked my car up to see if there is space to swap the the covers yet, however this seems high just to swap out the diff cover. They said if it was a regular 370Z there would be no problem and would not have to drop the rear axle.

600?!?! Wow... Its not really a hard job if you have the right tools. You have to unbolt the drive shaft, then the 2 axles from the diff. The pumpkin itself is only held in by 3 bolts. I was able to remove the pumpkin myself in my garage in about 2 hours. I didn't install the diff cover though, but it can't be that hard.

*forgot to say you'll have to remove the midpipes and may have to remove the swaybar... can't exactly remember.

The Nismo doesn't have any additional braces compared to the other trims,... has a rear damper but I don't believe that has to be removed.

Thanks, I've done this on previously owned 350 and G35, just can't see having to drop the axle for acces. I'll definately have to jack the Z up this weekend and take a look.

Not worth 600 IMO, Secret Service Auto in Houston did it while installing my Carbonetics LSD and their labor+Fluids was around 400 if i remember right and that was really labor to do the LSD which took longer than just the cover... If you need i can go hunt through receipts for the exact price but it shouldn't cost more than 200-300 im thinking with fluid.

The dealersh!+ is full of sh!t, like usual. Nismo trim or not, you have to remove the rear diff to swap out teh AL rear cover, since the rear mounting stud goes into/through it. It's not worth doing unless you go to a lower final drive or install a "real" LSD.

I have it, 600 is ******** to install, its about as time consuming to do as changing 4 tires. FYI though I would watch out on this one depending what aftermarket exhaust you might decide to put on, it takes up a LITTLE more realistate because of the fins. and its not really even a viable option unless you track religiously. kind of a waste of money actually. its a viscous rear, uses fluid. I got it just to say I have everything available from nismo for the car.

I'm curious just what aftermarket Xhaust would hit these fins:confused: I doubt any aftermarket Xhaust would come close....

about to find that out actually, getting an ARK DT-S. If it hits, I will be quite poopy pants.

I know for a fact that my motordyne did and I had to cut away quite a few fins with my dremel.

I installed the nismo diff cover when I changed out my gears and am also running the Fast Intentions Exhaust and I've never had a clearance issue. Hope this helps. :tiphat:
