2009 nismo vs 2012 nismo

thinking about trading in my 09 for a '12. any thoughts?

TheOtherRob 03-08-2012 02:10 PM

Why? For the oil cooler?

Cmike2780 03-08-2012 02:12 PM

Why? It's pretty much the same car except maybe the addition of an oil cooler.

nismochiq 03-08-2012 02:14 PM

a lot of defects that I don't have time to fix myself mainly.

Jamaica 03-08-2012 02:14 PM

No difference besides oil cooler . Save your money for mods

What do you mean defects?

nismochiq 03-08-2012 02:17 PM

I know its dumb just wanted someone to talk me out of it :) I have a problem with buying the newer the better thanks :)

nismochiq 03-08-2012 02:19 PM

and I don't have a garage...which dampens my time fixing it

bigsix 03-08-2012 02:24 PM

You may inherit a whole new set of problems or quirks with a different car, too.

The Nismo you have now, does it run well mechanically? Did you break the engine in from New? It's nice to know where the car has been.

nismochiq 03-08-2012 02:26 PM

true that is why I was thinking no and just getting a house with a garage. because I know my car very well. the engine is a 2010 engine, and everything else is fine mechanically, just little stuff I guess. I am an impulsive buyer lol I just wanted fellow gismo owners to be like hey stupid wtf are you doing :) and thats what I got lol

Seems kind of trivial stuff that can be easily fixed. I think you'll end up loosing a lot of money if you trade in. I would try fixing the small stuff and get it out of the way. Fixing the hatch for example, means replacing those rubber things, if its the problem I'm thinking of. Replacing the harnest is pretty easy also. If you still think its worth it after fixing one or two things, trade it in if it gives you peace of mind.

nismochiq 03-08-2012 02:33 PM

no i understand its just I'm so busy, i was going to do it on my own, might as well try it right? thanks Ill see if its worth fixing first.

Steering wheel lock is one thing to think about. The '12 should have the new Rev D on it

 like others said, you won't get much value out of the switch unless you for a GTR ;)

slo 03-08-2012 04:33 PM

If you are debating on trading it in, at least try and hold out for the next generation model. As many times as I have switched cars in the past, I switch cars for a newer model, not just a newer year. I would hate to pay all over for the same thing, or just about the same thing.

forza370z 03-08-2012 09:59 PM

I always think why the Z doesn't go FI? It's been in NA form for 10 years! I wouldn't trade in my 09 nismo for 12... not until the Z comes out with turbo charged...

Gauge 03-08-2012 10:17 PM

I heard they added more boost to the 2012 model.

I think you're right... doesn't the 2012 have 4 turbochargers and make 1500 rwhp? Definitely a better car :)

roplusbee 03-09-2012 12:40 AM

Don't do it.......................

Gauge 03-09-2012 07:15 AM

The only thing my car has over any other previous year is the paint chip in my front bumper :D

Oh, and the oil cooler. Which I'm not convinced yet is all that great. Works now in the winter(ish) time, we'll see how it holds up in the summer.

fuct 03-09-2012 08:27 AM

you must have had an oil consumption issue on the factory motor. hows your syncros and tranny holding up?

roplusbee 03-09-2012 01:23 PM

nismochiq:

Just so that you know, I posted a thread about selling/trading my 09 NISMO and getting a G37 IPL (Link). I need a back seat so that I can accommodate kid(s)/car-seat(s)/boost-seat(s). In the end, it is not really worth letting my NISMO go. I am going to pick up a sedan (at some point), keep my NISMO, and call it a day.:eekdance:

As far as issues with the 09 NISMOs, your dealer should cover all of the little quirks under warranty. The hatch springs, window motors acting up, oil consumption issues (if you have that, but I didn't), and hopefully the electronic steering lock :stirthepot: (not holding my breathe though). Bate's Nissan even took care of the stuff that BMW Window Tinting jacked up when they did my windows and chopped up my stereo system install :shakes head: (I had to go in behind them and reinstall everything, so I basically paid them to **** my car up) UNDER WARRANTY. If your NISMO puts a smile on your face even similar to mine, you should keep it. Just wait for the Z35 (or whatever). They may actually release it with the turbo V6 that they have been working on for quite some time now. From what I understand, the 2013 NISMO will be just like the 2012.................for what it's worth :driving:

I know.....I know. Won't happen again! PW/SR Brigade still rollin wit da BAWS!

mick 03-09-2012 10:32 PM

i believe the 2013 has a better stereo system but it's still not worth it, (to trade the old nismo for new nismo). so i vote no for the 2012

nismochiq 03-10-2012 08:18 PM

well i did have the low oil consumption issue and everything just went to crap after that. so seeing as I wasn't upside down, I did it because I am paying the same for what I already was paying, and with 0% financing. so honestly I made out good with it. plus with all the issues I was having...it might have been a stupid move, but seeing as it was the same amount but no interest rate, I kind of made it out good.

roplusbee 03-10-2012 08:30 PM

well alrighty then. Pix of the new beast?

nismochiq 03-10-2012 08:39 PM

Awesome! So what's the noticable difference from the 09?

nismochiq 03-12-2012 11:55 PM

haha thanks and yeah they were all staring, the noticeable difference? well from when i first drove my 09 to this one def the handling, the shifting is a bit softer, then again different cars have different attitudes. i have to drive her more but she might be a he this time, has a little more aggression to the drive and the start.
