Soo i had the cooler for about a week and a half everything was good oil temps around 180. Was driving home tonight and I heard a weird noise, then my oil light came on and the car almost lost control. I quickly came to a stop and huge fumes of smoke started pouring out from the engine bay. I turned the car off and noticed oil everywhere on the road behind me, all over my wheels and all over the engine.. meanwhile oil was still pouring out all over the ground while the car was stopped. Going to have the car towed to the shop I had install it in the morning and figure out what the problem is.
Anyone have an idea what happend? Has anyone else had a problem like this with the Z1 Motorsports Oil cooler or any other oil coolers? Any help here would be great! thanks |

cannot say ive heard really of anything like that. The huge fumes of smoke make me think its not coming from the oil cooler as the oil cooler itself wouldnt smoke Did you check where the oil was pouring out from? perhaps lift the hood to see what it looked like underneath? there was a member whos oil line i believe came loose onetime but it didnt esesntially blow into fumes. |

The smoke was probably from the oil spraying all over a scalding hot motor, and the light would come on if it sensed a HUGE decrease in both oil pressure and amount of oil. Sounds like u ruptured a line/fitting or "hope not" the core.
It wont hurt anything at all as long as the car was NOT run w/o oil and u shut it down right away, it will just be a bitch to clean up lol. |

Sorry that I havent been able to update this in a while. Just wanted to let everyone know of how the situation was handled. It turns out that a small pin that held the fitting in place was either missing or came out and because of that it resulted in one of the lines to come off. From what I understand the smoke I was seeing was due to oil getting on the manifold.
Big thanks to Z1 for sending me out a new fitting very quickly, I was able to have the car returned to me right before the Flat Out Motorsports event at Roebling Road last weekend! It was very hot out there, I would say the air temps were around 98, oil temps never got above 230!! ![]() |

As I mentioned before, this type of failure was extremely odd. As with anything else in life...anything is possible. Those pins are pressed in and what allows for the swivel function of the fitting itself. We have inspected and verified all current lines on the shelf for both the 300zx, 350Z and 370Z oil cooler kits. Any thoughts on coming up for the Nationals and doing that track event? |

I also got to take a ride along with the black z, he was in a different run group from me, he is an amazing driver, I think he was pushing low 1:20's in that thing! As for Nationals I would like to attend but my works schedule for that week looks pretty full, I doubt I will be able make it ![]() |

damn, wish I had seen this thread a few hours ago. I just finished installing mine... would have checked the couplers.
Oh well, a test drive, road trip and track day in the next 2 weeks should prove it out. Sorry to hear about the issue - even with an occasional glitch this is still a superior product imo and Z1 has excellent customer service!
