Went with a friend to test drive mustangs. He was interested in a V-6 price fuel all that jazz...while I was there I decided to test drive a 5.0 auto.

Went with a friend to test drive mustangs. He was interested in a V-6 price fuel all that jazz...while I was there I decided to test drive a 5.0 auto. Don't know if I have become soft but it was comfy and the exhaust note sounds just right and the thing will snap your neck back. From a dead stop it seemed really slow, could be the 6 speed auto or it was that smooth and deceptive, don't really know. But off a roll, it will get up and go with authority. The V-6 mustang is as fast as the nismo... And I can drop reg in the 5.0 and the insurance is cheaper...??? Ahh Man...I think I may be getting back into a stang.

So you figured out that bigger motors tend to make more power? The v6 mustang isn't remotely in the same league as a nismo, don't kid yourself. There is a lot more to performance than "snapping your neck back".

Dig up a V6 or even a V8 "stang" and let's test this theory at Roebling or Road Atlanta. ![]()

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Really? The V6 Stang is as fast as the Nismo? Forget the fact that the V6 tops out at like 117mph it is in no way as fast or faster then any 370. I love CarandDriver but it has been proven that the Nismo they drove around in there Lightning lap was worn out (tires brakes etc) from being a slut for like a million other magazines.

$35 to remove the rev limited. With it off, the v6 knocks several seconds off the lap time, pushing it well below 3:12. |

i'm going to have to double check which episode it was but on Top Gear UK you catch a glimps of the 370's track time and the Roush 540 time, and IIRC the 370 was about the same around the their track as it was, so i don't think the v6 is going be be quicker then a Nismo on anyones track.

A V6 Mustang will not beat a 370z with the SP or a Nismo around a track. It lacks straight line and cornering abilities in objective terms, not to mention a slight disadvantage in weight (with the exception of the Nismo) and it is not like it has a better chassis than the Z either. This isn't fanboism, this is simply what is out there to be gathered from reviews and specs. Down in acceleration, braking, weight, and grip.
Now a 5.OH, that car is mightily impressive in many ways. It is INSANE what simple bolt ons can do for the GT.

Woahhhh fellas. Not doggin on anything just saying the stang, modern 2011 version, is quite impressive. A 2010 gt forget it. Ford did good with their 5.0. And im not talkin track times. Nismo comes in 350hp 0-60 in 5.3sec 1/4mile in 13.8 those times are the same as the v6 mustang as some people have indicated. The 5.0 comes in at 4.4sec and 12.7. IVE SEEN IT in plenty of reviews and really didnt care when i got my nismo. Just sayin after a test drive....wow.

What Nismo you looking at? The 370z, Nismo or regular, is known to run 13.2-13.5 pretty consistently with even a published 13.1 for an automatic 370z. Yes, the 5.0 stang will run 12.7 to 12.9 all day but the V6 stang is a 14 sec car. I think only on the most perfect of days at the best prepped track with the best driver will you see a V6 stang dip into the 13's. The v6 stang is a respectable car for a change compared to previous 6cly mustangs, but a competitor with the 370z I think not. On the track forget it. The mustang v6 suspension is way too soft and has too much body roll. The Z, especially the Nismo, is much more capable in the turns.

3:12.0 - Nissan NISMO 370Z (2010) 3:12.5 - Ford Mustang V6 (2011) The mustang lost over a second due to the speed limiter. Probably closer to two seconds. |
