Picked up 2010 NISMO, have some very loud rattling coming from rear
Anyone had this issue with their vehicle? I just got the wife the car, and straight away it rattled down any and every road. I can't tell if it's the LP or something in or under the rear deck.
Is this commonplace? I checked back there and everything looked secure... |
Rattle? No mine does not rattle. Is it under the car in the car? Was the car altered? Aftermarket exhaust or anything like that?
Anything in the spare tire area? |
The only thing that rattles in the back of my car is the carpet hoppin up an down hittin the foam under it because the roads in LA are crap.
|
I took out all the stuff back there minus the donut. Nothing seemed out of place. There was one tool missing from it's spot though...opposite of the screwdriver. Didnt see anything back there that was just loose outside of the deck itself. The car is almost new--2500 miles. No alterations to speak of.
|
But that at least let's me know that it's not common. This weekend I'll take everything out that I can from back there and test drive it to see if it's still present. If it is I've got to keep looking. If it's not I'll replace pieces until I hear rattling again. That's the plan anyway...I was thinking it was just the deck itself but with it being foam and all I don't think that's what's making the rattle.
Maybe I'll put some foam behind the plate too. |
when its cold the interior parts contract a very small amount. my rear clanks around too, but i think its cabeling and **** inside the actual hatch. theres a DIY about dynamatting the hatch.
|
it could be the rear hatch...mine rattles like crazy on bumps. you can take it to the dealer and ask them to have the latch altered
|
yeah mined rattled too. The dealer will fix you up though.
|
So what's actually causing the noise? The latch? It sounds like just something loose--like a loose metal bracket or something.
What will the dealer actually do? |

wow. i must be lucky because mine doesn't rattle at all -- well, not yet anyway :)

My trunk rattles a lot when going over rough roads. I used to have an 09 touring sport and never had this issue. I was told it's a common problem on the Nismo because the spoiler adds extra weight which causes more compression on the latch when going over bumps. I've yet to take mine to the dealer only because it's such a pain and I'm not 100% trust worthy of the dealer to work on my car. Tried finding a walk through on how to adjust the latch myself but no luck so far. Between that and the buzz rattle I got behind the gauge cluster after swapping exhaust it's really put me off regarding this car. My previous 09 with the same exhaust was perfect and never had a single rattle or flaw. Wish my 09 had never been totaled. Only plan to keep my Nismo for another year or so, basically until the 2012 Z gets announced and hopefully upgraded or until the new C7 Vette comes out. I had planned to keep my 09 for a very long time but this 2010 will not stay with me very long.

It IS the latch--and it's only on certain bumps. So the latch being made for the hatch without the added weight of the rear spoiler makes perfect sense. I wonder what the dealer would do to fix that though. It seems accessible just from taking off the weather stripping and then the black plastic paneling. Maybe they'll just line the latch piece with felt?! lol. Wait--that's a good idea--or maybe a thin sheath of rubber? Hmmm. |
Maybe im a little late. I dont know about loud but.. The clear plastic grommet (size of a dime) on the chassis where the bump stops line up when the hatch is closed. Are they even there? 1 of mine was missing causing it to be noisy over bumps. If so, make sure they line up perfectly when hatch is partially closed, then close. Those grommets actually move. I had to take mine off and crazy glue them. Im thinking about doubling them up so the hatch has a little less rebound. Still makes some squeaks but not as much. Its cold here in NJ. When its cold plastic makes noise. The hatch isnt forgiving in cold weather.

can you post pic of said grommet?
