Dealership Negotiations on NISMO
Because the NISMO is the flagship of the 370z model, do most dealerships treat negotiations differently? Meaning they are less likely to get closer to the dealer invoice price and stay firm on the sticker cost. I see a lot of posts stating that some have bought a new NISMO at say 37K or even less when the MSRP is roughly 40K.
This makes me think that some dealers are willing to work with you and the margin of profit for dealers is fairly large 3-4K (Sticker vs. Invoice). I'm assuming that each dealerships tactics on sales is different in that some might not budge and others will and being patient and walking out on a bad deal is key to finding a great deal. I'm just curious about NISMO owners' experiences when purchasing. I'm planning to purchase late summer or whenever the 2012 models go on sale to grab a new 2011 or 2010 NISMO and the 40K mark is a little steep when I see people driving off for 36-37K. I prefer to purchase new but I might take a used with only 1-2K on the odo which would obviously drop the price a fair amount. I'm not keen on used cars, not knowing if they were beaten. But sometimes that drop in cost may be worth the risk. Thanks Carfax! |

definitely possible to get it at invoice or below. my guess is that dealers expected the nismo to fly off the lots, so they ordered quite a few. most the dealerships i shopped at had plenty to go around, and if i waited a few more months i probably could've gotten a better deal - but alas i was impatient
anyway...just shop around, hopefully you're lucky like me and had around 5-10 different nismo's to chose from (within 75 miles) |

When I bought my nismo, I called around and basically all the dealers were willing to let it go at invoice price without negotiations. Also, when I was looking, there were about 5 nismos within something like 300 miles of me. 2 silvers, 2 black and 1 white. I got lucky with the 1 white because that was exactly what I was looking for. The one I got came with all the options except the nismo brakes. I got my nismo at 37xxx. After all the options + tax + title + city stickers + plates. It was 41200 OTD.
The great thing about the 370z in general was that my insurance rate dropped. It can probably drop some more if I decided to go with Allstate insurance instead of American family. |

I picked up mine for a hair over $36K and had them through in a nice $300+ nismo satin car cover as part of the deal. Dealers will let them go for 36-37, you just have to work them down a bit or have them throw in things like illuminated door sills or a car cover to sweeten the deal a bit. Just show them you can walk away at anytime.

Got my new 2010 for $36k as well. I didn't negotiate to hard. Suspect $35k for left over 2010 would be easy now. Mine had lit door sills and Nismo mats. Free oil changes for first year. could have got track pads at cost but I'm going for stop techs.

Got mine for $37k otd. So that's $34-$35 msrp.......? I dunno. There is a limited selection in my area. Went 1 hr one way to see a Nismo and they right off the bat were gonna sell to me, no games no gimicks $38 otd. But I didn't like that one because the clutch engagement felt wrong, messed up. It was a drag. Saw another one 1 hr in the opposite direction and I had to wheel and deal a little and got it at $37 otd. There was a fully loaded touring that I was considering but that was $40k otd. I liked all the features but it was an auto and didn't look as good as the Nismo. The rest is history. Check out the different dealers that have em. Worth the trip if you get a good price. Worth every penny.

I live in the Philadelphia area and over the past year I see 1 or 2 pop-up at any given time locally, however I tend to see more pop-up in north Jersey and NYC which is only about an hour and a half from me. So if I'm patient a good deal should come around. So it seems the reality is you can get them at 37Kish but add tax tags etc..your a little below or at 40K.
Another question....I'm have an 01 Prelude that is in excellent condition for being 10 years old and only has 75K mileage, is it to your benefit when it comes to negotiations to trade your car to the dealer for less than you would get on a private sale? Meaning, since you are giving them your car for less money, they are going to make some profit on your car..instead of just paying all cash down. Logic being that they are more willing to go lower on price knowing that they can make that up on the resale of the trade-in. 2001 Honda Prelude (Kelley Blue Book) 5-Speed, Base VTEC, 75K, sunroof, spoiler. No 10 year old car is in Excellent condition so lets say "Good" "Good" Condition Trade-In -6,700 "Good" Private Party-8,070 "Good" Suggested Retail-10,170 So lets say realistically they can make 2500-3000 on my trade in compared to just whatever over invoice we make a deal at. Honestly the car has been well maintained and I have kept it stock aside from coilovers and aftermarket rims (still have the original premium 16's). So for them to turn around and sell it wouldn't cost much. The reality is that I would have to get to a price point that would recover the difference between 6700 and 8070 in the negotiation. Curious if anyone else has pondered this decision or had this work to their benefit. |

I am in the Washington D.C. area and was lucky enough to have many Nissan dealers to work with. I dealt with each dealer completely through email and phone until I was able to get several prices in the ballpark of what I was willing to spend.
Ended up purchasing my new 2010 for 37K OTD in September, with free oil changes and car washes for life (not that I let them do it). If you shop around you can easily get a good deal. Good luck! |

When you trade in your car, you should be able to lower your taxed amount too. At least in the state of IL we can. I am not sure about your state. As for your trade in, expect 6k for it or less. If you can negotiate for them to give you 7k then you may be lucky. My 04 RSX-S, they wanted 6k for it. I ended up getting 8k for it.
