Does nismo 370z come with different engine?

Today at the Jim Ellis Mazda, a service rep argued with me that 370z nismo has different engine from regular 370z(sport & none sport). I told him that there is no difference from the two engines and he insisted on 370z nismo have to use synthid oil. Am I wrong or he was just being a DB:bowrofl:

GZ3 01-06-2011 03:50 PM

no difference at all, just diff tune on the ECU....ahahahahahhahathose service guys really need to get screened

atl370z 01-06-2011 03:55 PM

There was no win with him, i just laughed off. Clearly he was living in his own world:icon18:

tjlazer 01-06-2011 03:58 PM

Why argue with a Mazda service rep about this anyway?

GZ3 01-06-2011 04:00 PM

you should have played into it, got all paul walker on him, and started saying random codes for made up parts...thats what i always do lots of LOLing

ImportConvert 01-06-2011 04:01 PM

Reminds me of a 'vette owner I was talking to who swore the LS1 in his C5 was different than the one in my WS6. Almost as bad as the Z28 owner who tried to convince me their car was special because it came with a corvette engine.

Some people just cannot be swayed. Ignore.

SPOHN 01-06-2011 04:24 PM

What a joke. You should of said your right, the Nismo has a rotory motor. HA!

Cmike2780 01-06-2011 04:26 PM

The Nismo has a different exhaust (h-pipe) & ecu tune. Other than that, the powertrain is completely the same as a standard Z. The cost upgrades are the result of the suspension, body and other Nismo add-on's.

kenchan 01-06-2011 04:39 PM

does he think mazadah makes the 370Z's?

DIGItonium 01-06-2011 05:55 PM

Yes! It has a different engine... cover. :)

his wife drives a mazda speed 3. so i assume they took that there for some service and he drove his Z.

but yes.. he needs to stop servicing the mazda speed and upgrade the z.. at least until he can drive it faster than his wife can her MS3.. :D

But in his defense, back in the late 80s when the LS1 came out, they did rate it as lower power in the F bodies, although the dyno didn't show a real difference.

TypeOne 01-06-2011 07:48 PM

Reminds me when I went to the Honda dealership asking about the S2000 right when they came out. The salesman told me it had 13:1 compression and the redline was set to 9000rpm for "legal" reasons.

LOL

Late 90's?

Yes, they under-rated the engine in the F-bodies.

However, he was saying his intake had larger runners. Even after popping my hood and showing him the exact same LS6 intake, he stuck to his story, pointing at his and saying "See, they are larger!". He was so convinced that he was seeing things.

yeah, thats what I meant. For some reason I was thinking we had an 87 Z28 convertible, but it was a 97. I was just graduating college in 87 and on my first car, but we are now on our 30, 31, and 32nd cars.

'97 Z28 had the LT1.

Mike 01-06-2011 08:08 PM

hell, maybe it was a 98, I really can't remember, but I do remember hot rod magazine and the like dyno testing them (the LS's). After so many cars, things blur a little.

Regardless, that one was my wife's car and she doesn't like modding, so it didn't matter which it had. We only keep them for a year or so anyways normally. Finally starting to slow down though, had my 350 for 3 and a half years, the vette for 4 and now the 370 for a year and a half, but I'm getting itchy. When does the C7 come out? 2012 or 2013?

C7 should be out in 2012 as a 2013 model, from what I understand. Still, I wouldn't buy the first year-model. Personally, I think now is the time to buy a 'vette. Get a Z06. About everything that can be done to refine the platform, has been done, and it's awesome. The next gen will have to go through the refining process again, and I doubt there will be a 427ci engine offered.

Took wify's speed3 in for smoking turbo problem. The service rep told me that to get rid of the smoking issue, you as the owner need to start using synthetic oil. I was like WTF?? One, you are not going to fix the dang turbo and two you ask us to just deal with ourself? He also said that you got a sporty car and it requires synthetic oil and you got to pay to play(who in their right mind say that to the customer?). So I said "but my 370z does not require synthetic oil" He then ask me "did you get the NISMO because it's a different engine" :bowrofl: I told him it's the same!!! and thats not what he heard. At the end of the day, all the sales dpt side were really nice and the service dpt were bunch butt holes. Now, we have been in and out of the dealer for the same problem for over 5 times already and we have decided it's time to move on and look for somthing else. So, what can we get that is fast, fun and practical at the price range of $18000

Nismoracer 01-06-2011 11:46 PM

Same problem 5 times........ Use the lemon law and get you a new car. Wait is this a new vehicle?

Have a guy at the Nissan dealership call him who works at a mazda dealership and tell him to shut up.

getting off topic, but been there, done that. Although mine was a first year 05 with a supercharged A&A Vortech 515 rwhp regular C6 with custom widebody conversion (Z06 fenders front and rear and aftermarket hood and bumper so I wouldn't be a poser!). I need new stuff! No real problems with it, even being a first year, as is my 09 370.

Yup thats the one and for some reason every time we go in there, they have whole set of service rep. working there.

daisuke149 01-07-2011 10:56 PM

try talking to service managers and ask for the owner of the store as well.

even when i take my nissan in the service guys arent great. I go directly to the manager now.

Heck onetime my dad took in the versa to get a new tire mounted (someone ran a red light and pushed him into a curb and the tire actually ripped open) and the service guy tried to tell my dad that if he didnt get a "oil conditioner" that the warranty would be voided... yeah.. they are generally morons. I say generally cus of course I think Kevin works at the service side of an Audi Dealer! :-D
