Berk HFCs on Factory Nismo Exhaust *RASP*

Wouldn't the SES light kicks in when you have a leak? Hope it's just loose exhaust heat sheld.

No, I had a whole new H pipe put in with the OEM gaskets. But I'll have them check the joints/gaskets and the heat shield on my next oil change. It only happens on decel and at 2k rpm. I really can't hear it while driving. So its not that big on an issue for me.

I went from the factory Nismo exhaust and Berk HFCs setup which was raspy, to a FI CBE with the Berks HFCs. 1) To see if the guys at FI could prove that there would be zero rasp, 2) To go with a louder exhaust, 3) I liked the look of the cans from back, and 4) seemed that many people on the forum loved the product.

I now have no rasp, only the hiss on hard accel and lower rpm decel, which is typical of the car.

I had the FI resonated exhaust, but it was too loud for me and I went back to OEM Nismo. When I had it no rasp or rattle. Some hissing...

If I'm in the garage with windows down I can hear it. It comes from the back of the h pipe. It's some weird resonance with the heat shield. Next oil change I'll have the tech poke around and see if they can bend it. Oh if you have an intake and HFC you really need a tune.
I also have that rattle. Glad it's not something loose. It's pretty consistent and I only notice it when starting the car up cold... once it warms up, no more rattle.

the rasp is pretty common. i had berk hfc's on my g35 and i had the same issue. i also had a weird hiss noise on the revdown at about 2500rpm. it sounded like a rattle but it had to do with the difference in airflow i believe...ive heard much worse! i think the benefits outweigh the slight rasp though. they give that deep burble the VQ's are known for and they definitely give you moar powahhhh!!

Just ordered the Berk HFCs.. Hopefully I can live with whatever noise it produce. Otherwise the Fi Cbe will be the next mod.

I don't know where you're at in the Seattle area, but my Nismo currently has only the Berk HFCs installed. FI CBE is on order. If you want to hear it, we can set up a time and place to meet up. I never see other Nismos around here (I think I've seen one other in my life); wouldn't mind seeing one of my brothers!

Most definitely we should meet up! The person I bought my Nismo from had Zports in Everette modify the stock exhaust. Its pretty crazy lookin but I likey cuz its unique.

I just installed the Berk HFC and wow! It's sounds amazing. When cold I hear a little hissing but when its up to operating temp. No hissing or rasp whatsoever. I revved the engine fast and hard and nothin... Took it and open her up and sounds awesome. Instead of dumping $1200 on Fi Cbe. I'm gonna get the Lth headers instead for now...

You may know this, but keep in mind three things...

1) Long-tube headers eliminate the cats, so your $$ spent on the HFCs would be lost unless you could recoup the cost via resale.

2) LTHs are a difficult install to do yourself.

3) If you buy the headers and pay a shop to install them, you'll likely spend more than $1200.

It definitely sounds badass, though.

Yeah I was weighing out the idea. I figured if I sell those Hfc at a good price I should be able to get rid of it quick. When i installed them i tried hard not to put a scratch on them and wiped it down before starting the car.
Then for a second I thought I might have that rasp or loud hiss that everyone has been complaining about which I don't want. Also reading through some threads. It looks like the stocks manifolds do a really good job as it is.
I have some new tires on the way and so ill have some time to think about which way to go while I'm saving up. If I end up just running the stock manifolds then my next mod will be my tein suspension setup.
Decisions... Decisions... Decisions...

I have the FI test pipes and the stock Nismo exhaust and mine makes that sound and its annoying! I am hoping when FI installs my new exhaust it goes away! Mine is louder then yours and sounds like loose metal in the pipes. Has anyone changed their exhaust and notice it go away? That is what i am hoping for! Or I might go back to stock.

Just my 2c, I had the following experiences:

1. stock nismo cbe / stock cats - no hiss
2. stock nismo cbe / berk hfc - very noticeable hiss
3. FI cbe (18") / berk hfc - still very noticeable hiss, maybe louder maybe not hard to tell with exhaust on there
4. FI cbe (18") / stock cats - very very minor hiss, probably wouldn't notice if i wasn't listening for it

So in my experience the HFC was really the culprit.. There have been new HFC's that are resonated i've been thinking about trying that may reduce the hiss while still giving some more gains...but for now i'm extremely happy with the sound of FI cbe + stock cats (DD).
