Who here parks their nismo outside?

I was wondering how many of you guys park your cars outside instead of the garage.

I was also wondering if any of you guys will be driving your nismo through snowy weather?

Matt 08-13-2010 04:40 PM

I tried backing mine out of the garage after 2-3 inches of snow and didn't make it to the street. Had to drive the Murano that night.

Urbanracer 08-14-2010 08:22 PM

That would be a No on both of those questions for me. I wouldn't have bought the car if I had to drive it in the snow or park it outside.

Rogue370z 08-14-2010 09:36 PM

Inside for me. If I ever saw snow it would be a no.

fuct 08-16-2010 08:49 AM

mine stays in a garage at home. but at work it has to stay outside. snow? whats that?

Mine is semi outside being in a parking deck. I've driven my car in the ice and snow last time it snowed in Atlanta. Good times! Just gotta try it.

memorylasts 08-16-2010 12:22 PM

Parked outside 24/7 unless i park at a parking garage somewhere... dont have a garage to put it in. :'( and i dont like it!

zcar_dad 08-16-2010 01:26 PM

Park in the garage, like with my last two Zs. At work, I use a custom car cover. No snow ever - that is what my wife's Honda is for.

Cell 08-16-2010 01:49 PM

I've been debating on whether it is worth it to buy a nismo or just stick the with regular 370z.

The thing is I live in Chicago and I also have my own parking spot. The spot I park in is still exposed to all the weather we get here in Chicago. On top of that our streets here in Chicago are the worst...

If you guys were in my situation would you buy a nismo or stick with a regular 370z?

Jeffblue 08-16-2010 02:01 PM

i dont think it really makes a difference. i wouldn't get option A or option B based on how the car does in snow/location. both come with summer tires on wide wheels and both have the same paint quality. no matter what you get you're gonna need a dedicated set of snow tires and winter wheels if you plan to drive it. if its just gonna sit there, it doesn't really matter which you get.

The car will basically sit there and I will end up taking my mom's car which is a highlander.

She literally drive's her car twice a month. I've basically been driving it for 7 months. My other car has been sitting around and only driven once a week.

If I do get a 370z it will basically be driven once a week in the winters to get it washed/cleaned.

I also have to deal with speed bumps here in Chicago. We have a ton of them in all the small streets. I am 100% sure the regular 370z can make it but I am not sure about the nismo because of the extended nose and lowered ride height.

Jeffblue 08-16-2010 02:50 PM

big speed bumps and steep driveways are an issue with both Z's. the nismo is only a tiny bit lower. What i'm saying is, if you want the nismo, get it. if you were to scrape in the nismo, you probably would scrape in the base/sport 370z as well.

The Nismo is only a little lower, but the front fascia is longer and has a worse approach angle. That said, just buy what you want and learn to be careful with a low car.

mjohn617 08-16-2010 09:06 PM

I park mine outside. It's a beautiful car in limited production, and I would if I had a garage, but that isn't going to keep me from buying...IT'S JUST A CAR!!!

roplusbee 08-17-2010 08:33 AM

When at home, my NISMO is in the garage. Unfortunately, I am in GA (TDY) and have to park outside most of the time. I do get some garage time at my friends house, but not that often.

Ty Weezy 08-18-2010 02:16 PM

I would not drive my nismo in the snow and I also park in a garage. I would say go with the nismo if you want it since the issues you talk about will affect both cars pretty evenly. But if you are a big fan of a soft comfortable ride, the nismo won't be your best option with crappy roads. The ride in a nismo is noticeably harsher compared to a sport package or regular z.

Yea I am going to get the nismo. I believe I am picking it up this Saturday.

I will either drive my mom's car all winter or pick up a beater.

The best first mod is a DD.

True, but I am sure you guys have gone for a ride or driven acar that is a lot more harsh than a NISMO Z. I was surprised at how comfy it was compaired to my S13.

Have any of you guys driven over a speed bump yet? If you have did you guys make it? or did you guys have to drive in from an angle?

I live in an apartment, with a garage :), but lots of speed bumps. the tallest one is maybe I don't know 4", something like that, it's big. The Nismo has no problem going over it. I have never just driven straight over it though. Usually go at a slight angle, it's natural to me, I have always driven low cars, the Nismo is hardly low compared to what I normally have.

your right. my lowered IS300 dragged its belly everywhere. the nismo feels like a 4X4!

Nismoracer 11-21-2010 01:37 AM

I park my nismo outside. Figure where ever I go its going to be outside anyways. Would luv to put it in the garage would help having to clean it so much but significant other won't let me. :shakes head:

nabenson 11-22-2010 11:58 AM

I park outside. I'd rather have something covered, but as others have said it's still just a car and it is my daily driver.

Dpeters 11-22-2010 02:09 PM

I've dealt with some extreme speed bumps with no issues. I think you'll find the Nismo, while low, is still a production car and clears more than you would think.

PapoZalsa 11-22-2010 09:34 PM

America is the only place where your $40K car sits on the driveway and all the junk is in the garage.

Don't have a Nismo, however my cars are always garaged and the Z is no exception. As far as snow that is what my truck and wife SUV is for. ;)

chuckd05 11-22-2010 09:51 PM

no offense to the nismo z or its owners, but I get this weird feeling that the owners of them put it on a pedestal like its a totally different car..

all Z's are rather inexpensive vehicles... why just the nismo outside? are regular Zs less garage worthy ?

Nope.... Not sure you noticed but this is the Nismo section, hence why the question was geared toward the Nismo version.

im always reminded of why you dont see many integra type R's, or STi's parked along the street. THIEFS!!!! its a specific vehicle that people want to steal.

Thank you Chuck! I feel the same way! Besides if it was a badass car that you see yourself keeping till the end of days, your probably going to go through a restoration project as some point in time...I don't see that with the Nismo. It's only a 40k car, I kind of feel like you can drive the **** out of it and not feel guilty after.

Although, I am a Japanese classic car guy and I would love to have this car in my collection in the distant future along with the Veilside RX-7, Supra, Etc. But I would also enjoy restoring it after I bought it for nothing.

fuct 11-24-2010 02:05 PM

im not saying mine hasnt spent a night or two outside, but i try not to make a habbit of it.

Shamu 01-07-2011 12:16 PM

I bought my Nismo as cheap throw away commuter car that I can put lots of miles on. My Porsche gets the garage. Nismo sits outside and gets 100 mile a day commute so I can keep the miles off my nice cars.

Nismoracer 01-07-2011 01:24 PM

Wow your Nismo is your DD. Your beater. Your everyday goto car. :driving:

haha. i don't think it would function well as a DD because it requires an oil change every 3k miles. if he drives 100 miles a day, he would need to change oil every month . also the tires would need to be replaced very often at that rate. I got a DD car that most people here don't care for but the manufacturer says it doesn't need an oil change until 10k miles, and the tires that it uses don't wear out as fast as the ones on the 370z nismo.

Im not your typical commuter. My last commuter car was a 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 GT with RE11 tires. Just sold it with nearly 100,000 miles. I usually get about 15K out of soft street tires. Usually go through two sets a year. Oil changes about once every two months.

But I do kid about the Porsche getting better treatment. I dont have a garage. Porsche sits on a trailer with a cover over it. For Nismo I will just use lots of wax and keep the car clean.

in late august i got a 2010 vw new beetle for daily commute and a month later my boss told me in 2011 the office would be relocated to a site that was 30 miles away. the total one-way driving distance from home to work would be about 50 miles  luckily, the management decided to provide transportation for everybody from the old office to the new office: i would drive to the old office, park my car there, and then take the bus to the new office. had they not provided transportation, i would have been in the same situation that you are in.
