First Mods to get when going for quarter mile racing?

Hey everyone, was wondering what bolt on setups i could have. So far i got a bone stock nismo, going to choose to stick with NA path due to lack of funds. I'm not too knowledgeable about the aftermarket parts out there, but anyways so far all i can think of is, an HFC, pulleys, intake, and long tube headers? not sure if all those together would work, are there any other bolt ons I am missing that I could get? Looking forward to going to the tracks soon, but don't wanna go there and be like, "yea im all stock" hehe.

Besides what you said, sticky tires. I'm not talking slicks at this point, just a nice sticky DOT tire. I used to like Nitto 555r's, but I'm sure there are many brands.

ah i see, also do you know if all HFC's are compatabile with the nismo exhaust? or will it require welding? Also im not sure, but would your cat back exhaust still be functional if you went the route of long tube headers?

Final drive will make the greatest and most cost-effective upgrade out of all of the mods you stated combined.

For 1/4 mile id pull off as much weight as possible..take out pass seat, tire/tools, run1/4 tank of gas, etc..

If they fit the standard Z they'll fit the Nismo. And long tube headers replace the headers and the cats and bolt directly to a catback exhaust.

if what your looking to do is drag the car, perhaps your first mod should be sell it and buy a muscle car?

:iagree:

Trade in on a 2011 Mustang GT. That's a low 12 second car out of the box.

DrewDong 07-21-2010 12:11 PM

ah i see, anyone know a realistic price for installations of long tube headers? I usually have my half mechanic friends doing my installs, but they said that these they couldn't do. Pretty sure I may go with LTH first, once i get enough funds. This is going to be a daily driver, i just like to go do 1/4 casually, not really hardcore about it, but jus something to do being the adrenaline junky that i am:woot: .

Wondor if I can pull 11's NA with this car, think its possibile?

theDreamer 07-21-2010 12:14 PM

Fastest reported time is Z eliminator with full bolt ons, gears and some different tires I believe, he was running 12.7ish I believe.
NA this car will probably not break below 12.5.

:driving: Oh i see, would you happen to know what the c6 model corvettes are running? Im sure ill be running into some of those on the track, and wanna teach em a lesson!

C6 Vettes are low 12 second cars. You will get your butt kicked by any C6 driver that knows what he's doing.

theDreamer 07-21-2010 12:38 PM

Your main competitors are going to be pre-2011 Mustangs, Camaros, Evo, STi, etc.
I say pre-2011 because those from factory are going to be you with bolt ons probably.

This car is fast but not a 1/4 mile kinda fast dude.
This is a twisty king not a drag king. Shoulda gone with a Mustang GT if your into low cost and blistering fast straight line running. I here the new Mustang GT is M3 0-60 fast. But the Z will walk away from the GT on the twisties. Never driven a car that will carve like this one does. The harder you push the corners the more she digs in and turns. Thats with the less than impressive stock tires.

The crazy thing is the Z won't walk away from the Mustang... the Mustang will actually beat us everywhere but the AutoX. But I'll leave all that in all the threads past. 2011 GT is a killer!

Yes it is, but it is still a boring looking mustang, and I love the z.

Wonderful American sports car for sure. It is not as violent of the line as I remember from earlier version Stangs, but it is faster some how and man does it sound good. Much improved suspension from cpl years ago also.
I test drove the GT I felt it did not stick like the Z. The GT Looses traction easy out of the corners if you are hard on the throttle. When you shift the weight side to side the front tires do not want to bite like the Z either. Not sure what they post for the slalom speed for the GT. I know it is better than previouse models, but it deff feels slower than the Nismo when transitioning side to side. The Nismo is nimble for a 3300 lb car, that is why I think the Z will walk away from the GT in the twisies.

First, there's nothing wrong with going to the track with a stock car.

Second, a driver mod works really well for 1/4 racing. You can add all the parts you want to your nismo but if you can launch or shift worth a damn then all the mods will be worth crap.

$0.02

Really,
you mean learning to drive your car is actually important. Who would have guessed.
By the way,
other than highflow cats and lighter rotors, the Nismo needs no mods. Besides, what fool would mess with a pkg already built to dance.
I was simply comparing the diff in nature of two fine autos, the GT and the Z. The only reason I brought up the Nismo is cause its what I drive today. Have had two 350's and my share of 280's. I have driven my share of Z's. I never believe the crap you read or someone tells me, I do the homework myself.

Don't buy they hype, always know your adversary.

Hombre - you forgot to mention the oil cooler. It is a must on the track. :icon18:

Not really for drag racing

klubbheads 07-30-2010 01:50 PM

Good luck at the track with nismo. This car is not a drag racer at all, even worst than my G. Did 1 1/4 mile day at the track and was really disappointed because of its really stiff rear springs. There absolutely no room for the rear end to squat and that causes a nasty shaking and the risk of damaging the diff. If you can get under 2.2 60ft time with this car then u did an excellent job. Now i know why magazines get the same exact 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers as the regular 370.....

I might give it one more try later this year with 1/4 mile and then give it a rest as far as drag racing goes.
