Stock Clutch Tight...
Hey Guys,
Im new to these forums and just picked up my 2010 nismo this week. One thing i noticed is the clutch is quite stiff and leads me to stall starting out in 1st. Im sure its just me needing to get used to it, but does anyone have any tips on this? Thanks. |
Practice :)

It'll loosen up over time. Mine did a little.

Drove my womans Scion Tc for 2 weeks, got back in my car and man the Z's clutch is stiff. More power needs more clamping force for a clutch. What helps me is letting the rpm's go a little bit higher before I let out the clutch.

I don't think it's stiff, but it is high and quick to bite...practice makes perfect....

Hey Guys,
I appreciate the advice. After driving it more, im slowly getting it down. As mentioned above, ive been somewhat riding the clutch more in 1st and realized that i have to give it more revs at the get go. Where do you guys typically rev to when starting? In the past, ive typically tried to keep it under the 1000 rpm mark, but i think with this car, especially on any sort of incline, thats near impossible... unless im just not used to the car yet... |

That's true, although the clutch in the z is stiffer than that of a corvette, CTS-V (556 hp), etc.... |
1000-1500 should be plenty to start moving in 1st. This stock clutch is anything but stiff though. It feels like my old 2000 Audi A4. My Landrover Defender 90 had a stiff clutch as did the Jaguar X type. That Jag was a real biatch to launch with the clutch take about 1/2 inch off the floorboard. Stalled that car all the time, even with years of experience driving manuals. In comparison, the Z is a walk in the park.

^^If you have to floor the clutch, the clutch cable should be inspected or replaced. I have done it on two vehicles before 95 pathfinder and my brothers 99 mazda 626. Both times I noticed a huge difference in the clutch felt like it was brand new all over again!
My 370's clutch is so nice though! Practice in a parking lot you can get the Z to move with hardly any rev for slow movements, just gotta find that sweet spot. My Z hardly needs to be pressed in to shift, as it should! If I ever need to floor it in any of my Z's the 370 or JDM 300zx then I will be looking into some sort of problem that needs to be fixed ie. clutch, clutch cable ect..... |
