And you know why Nissan does that? Because there are people who will pay more for those distinguishing features. Even if they are not that great and easily copied. The market is there.

Regardless of your feelings on the matter, a stock Nismo is a liability just like 99.9% of all cars. There is some extra value there compared to a non-Nismo Z, especially to certain buyers. But the Nismo version appreciating in value is a laughable thought.

You say this now. But in 30 or so years. You might be thinking differently. Look at the 240, some of the muscle cars. Cars that was under $5K new. You can't touch for 4 times that now. Chellvelle, which would you want the 396 or the 427? Road Runner, which would you pick. The 383, the 440, or the Hemi? Who would thought about Lionel trains.

But we're not talking about a car that was less than $5K new. We're talking about a car that's $40K new. So the appreciation has to be astronomical to compare to those cars you mention.

Give it time. The more sent to the crusher, the less on the road. How many thousands of Chellvelles was made. About 10 times if not more of the Z. Try a find a nice oem 427 Chellvelle. As for the $40,000 car today. Remember inflation. Everything goes up. You have pick up trucks knocking on the $100,000 range now.

Most of everything above hinges on how we as a people inbrace the electric car in the coming future.

I'm aware. But you realize that's like $200K for a Nismo

If you want to bank on that, good luck. There are better investments of course. You can always hang onto your Nismo and hope. But I'm guessing in the future that Nismo badge won't fetch significantly different than a comparable condition non-Nismo. So yeah, it's a fun sports car that in 50 years could be worth something. But until that point, it's not like it's going to slowly appreciate.

200k, that's about what I have into mine (ok, that's what it feels like). That means mines going to have to appreciate up to 400k. I'll be long gone before that happens.

For the record, $5K in 1973 adjusted for inflation is about $30K today. So a car that sold for $5K new being worth $20K today isn't exactly appreciation. More like it held value far better than most cars do.

Man its almost like you forgot all about the Rx7 Spirit R. What made it different? The fact that it was made by rhe few and a couple "upgrades" to the quality of the drive. It had nothing going for it besides being the last model of the car, yet look at them. I see unmolested/slight mods go for ove 50-70K. You're right though, nothing special about em to the ones not interested in em

You're talking about a one-off upgrade model year. The Nismo model is not a comparison. It's been around for the entire duration of the Z34 lineup.

Look I'm not trying to argue that there's no way it could be. But if you're asking right now? There is no reason to think that it would be some outrageously special value in the future. Sure it'll be worth something in the years to come. Cause it's a badass car that has classic lines. But a numbered Nismo will never be anything other than slightly more valuable than a non-Nismo as a general comparison. That's just my uneducated opinion. Funny how often people like to tell me my opinion is wrong

No one is saying your opinion was wrong, the thread is about V1 Nismos, slightly because of the fact that it is a numbered car and because of smaller stuff too. One, being a manual only trim and its relevance to the racing scene and popularity. V2 Nismos are better for your explanation because they arent numbered and more generic in a sense. I'm not saying our cars are super kick *** and that it deserves insane praise, im just saying comparing it to a stock 370z value wise now and in the future is truthfully laughable because quality and rarity has always been a car scene distinction regardless of how well the upgrades "function" over stock and comparing it to aftermarket upgrades.

That numbered badge isn't going to be the difference between the car appreciating or not. That's all I'm saying. But I could be wrong.

You didn't concede. In the end, we're not really arguing opposing views. Just making different points.

I'm all for some Z34 appreciation. Financial or otherwise

Just before I bought my Nismo in 2012 I drove a new base model and I was not impressed. I did not want to by a Mustang or Camaro and didn't want anything other than a two seater. I saw Nismo at a Carmax and decided to give it a try. The driving experience was so much different I bought it the next day. I didn't know anything about the platform at that time and then my education began. She has been modded every since I bought it. $200k is about right LMAO!
