What size oil cooler will fit on the Nismo?
 

I'm wondering if there are any oil coolers that will fit on the Nismo without custom brackets.

You do not need a custom bracket. A 34 row Setrab cooler that is offered in both the Nissan Motorsports and Z1 Oil Cooler Kits will fit. You just need to flip the front chassis dampner over 180 degrees. You will reuse the stock brackets.

got my oil cooler from GTM, if you mount it with the fittings down, so the oil drains when you do the car's oil change, you will have to remove the nismo lateral stabilizer in the front. If you mount it with the fittings, you will retain the lateral stabilizer.

my 19 row will be here on wednesday and my brother and i will be installing it the following saturday. i'll be taking lots of pics of the install so we have a real DIY for putting an Oil Cooler on a Nismo. as Dustin said, the 34 will also fit, but might be overkill for your application (probably is.) most companies also make a 25 row if you'd like something in between.

I'm in GA so I'm worried about summer temps. I just want to make sure that the car can handle Auto-X's and trips to the Tail of the Dragon. My WRX is the car for when I want to do the crazy stuff.

Since summer temps in Ga can reach and maintain the mid-90's in the summer time. And due to the fact that you will be looking at doing some PDE driving, I would recommend the 25 row. You might be ok with the 19 row, but extended abuse and thrashings during the summer months may bring the oil temps up a bit.

yeah every time i talk to someone with a cooler it worries me, especially living in TX. worst case scenario I'll upgrade to a Setrab 25row 6 series or maybe even a 9 series if the 19 proves to not be enough. When/if that happens I'll make someone a deal on my 19 heh.

I bought and installed one from Stillen. It went on pretty easy but I also found that the dampner was in the way. What I did was simply moved the cooler over towards the center a few inches and drilled one new mounting hole. The cooler comes with a nice bracket that mounts using two exsisting factory bolts. But mounted as shown the cooler hits the dampner, so moving it towards the cenetr a bit worked well with a very min. of changes.using the holes already on the cooler bracket, move it over so the furthest hole on the left as you are looking at it, goes to the hole to the right of it, then drill another hole to take care of the hole furthest to the right(ceneter of grill opening). Install and mount the hoese. Also make sure the hose s are already hooked to the cooler of youll have a tuff time getting them tight. Also when mounting ANY of the coolers sold, if they use the stainless bradied lines, Make sure you put a rubber cover over the lines any place they might rub on the body or suspension parts. If not, 2 things can happen, 1st the will rub through and when they touch they end up making a high piched noise due to the metal covering. I simply used pcs. of heater hose, took short pcs. slit them long wise, put it over the hose and used zip ties to hold them in place. You dont want an oil leak!!!

flipping the damper works supposedly without having to make your own holes. i'll find out for myself in 5 days.

The rubbing issue you mentioned is one reason we are offering the Aeroquip Socketless hoses as an option. We have also been hearing about a resonance/ vibration that can be heard with the SS Line kits.

The Aeroquip Socketless Lines solves both of these problems and is ALOT easier (friendlier) to maneuver around and route through the chassis.

i got in my product yesterday and the Aeroquip hose means business, especially the -10 :eek:

gotta mock it up to see if i need any more hose then saturday it's on! :excited:

My 19 row fit real well. From the looks of things you can go vertical all day long (25 row, 34row.) Horizontal is a lot more cramped. I'd recommend avoiding the Setrab 9 Series 25 Row Oil Cooler. If I remember correctly it's 3 inches wider than the 6 Series.

Outstanding DIY from Vipor...Question to all with oil cooler....are you concerned that by having the in/out on top versus on bottom that you may have stagnant oil or debris that never gets fully drained out during changes? Thanks
