Stillen headers?

Have burks HFC and just got headers from stillen, probably going to return them after seeing fast intentions long tube headers, but have a thought....with nismos tune and the fact that i will definitely install the stillen supercharger once released, should i just keep them? I know the 370z without a tune is showing minimal hp gain/torque gain, but it seems that it might show greater gains and benefit with the tune and increased airflow from a supercharger, while still keeping the HFC (I live in cali, and don't want to get towed for no cats)

You've heard of people getting towed for no CAT's? How would they know?

I'm going with FI's although I really do like Stillen. Figure Stillen will get enough of my $ with the SC kit unless of course GTM comes out with a Superior one sooner.

I'm really curious to what this system will cost.....hmmmm....

PS. I have a buddy that takes care of E Tests too, been doing so for a VERY long time so not worried about that either.

i called stillen and they didnt recommend running the all their bolt-ons?

They said you can use 3 out of 4. E.g. Intake, Exhaust and HFC. Or Intake, header and exhaust. If you run all 4 the car will run very lean.... Isnt there an Uprev tuning available if you plan on running all the stillen bolt-ons.

Did they really say that?

Someone dishing out 3-4k on mods and install can spend another 500 to tune IMO, don't expect much leaning out from their headers anyways, they're like the stock ones with some polish & badging.

^Agreed, get your tune done if you have full bolt ons. Whats another 500-750 bucks. Get a tune and get the most out of your mods.

There is not that much they can do with tuning right now. There is a lot that they still have to crack on the vq37.

G37Sam 12-26-2009 08:20 PM

Silver you don't have to mess with the VVEL and Timing, just adjust the A/F ratio to be in the safe region that's all

SilverBullet 12-26-2009 08:21 PM

Yea. That will help with running rich/lean. To get some more power, you have to adjust timing.

matrix_square 12-26-2009 09:00 PM

i meant i was looking for a tune for this... i will be going to forge performance in marietta probably for any tuning i want to do. I was worried that the gains from intake/header/exhaust/hfc was not going to net 60 whp... I guess the baseline dyno for our cars are about 250-270... I wanted to reach atleast 320`s before thinking of getting the stillen/vortech SC.

SilverBullet 12-26-2009 09:07 PM

There was a guy on myg37 with intakes, FI CBE, and test pipes that got 335 whp with tune.

G37Sam 12-26-2009 09:41 PM

Oh man there we go again with people being too anal on numbers.. man these numbers don't mean anything honestly.. Chamelion's dyno read 300whp just with HFC's I believe

G37Sam 12-26-2009 09:51 PM

the big deal is, you dyno the same car on the same dyno 2 times and you get numbers that vary + or - 5 whp for instance. Yet people keep talking about dyno numbers like they're God sent, they're just measurements man.

SilverBullet 12-26-2009 09:53 PM

Ok, we'll just rely on butt dynos then.

I'm taking my Stillen headers out if anyone wants to buy them. It'll be a few months before I take them out though.
