Tires
Hi gang:
I'm in need of new rubber for the Zipper. Been a while since I've seen the topic surfaced (or maybe I missed the thread), but I'd like to get people's seat-of-the-pants opinions/experience with their choice of tires. Here is what I'm wanting to find for the Nismo: 1. Durability - I don't run the car on a track but I'd like to find some middle-ground between handling and longevity 2. Tire size - I want to remain with the OEM sizes. I'm contemplating the Michelin Sports and would like to know if someone recommends them or what ever brand you swear too. Regards Figtuna |

Top 2 choices.
Re-11 or Mich PSS.

Better Grip = Re-11
Better wear and really good grip = PSS

If your ~Z~is a daily driver-you may want to consider an ultra HP tire like the GY F1 all season assymetric.
Wore out 2 set's of rear's & removed them....front's still have 7/32" w/40k miles (Y) speed rated & handles really well,,,+you can drive on them @freezing temp's....as a max summer tire/this is not recommended. I Hear the MPSS & the RE11's are both great tires;unsure of tread life. Also* the Michelin's & Goodyear's are Lighter= more power to the road!

He's in Alabama. Don't think he has to worry about freezing temps too much.

I would suggest S0-4's for their price point and performance. They are very close to PSS in performance but may not last quite as long and you can get into a set for less than $1200!

Hey guys: Thanks for all the great input, saves me the aggravation of the research I would have had to do.
One other question that I should have asked in my original posting is the ride quality and noise level. I had a 2010 Nismo and the OEM tires, Yoko, were almost deafening at times, especially toward the end of the tire-life. The M-PSS sound like the ticket, I just want to be sure. Thanks Guys Figtuna |

Hey SouthArk, just a comment.... I lived in Vail, Colorado for 10 years and Denver for 3yrs. The worst winter storm experience I've ever had was here in B'Ham on Jan. 14th, 2014 when a snowstorm came thru and the roads turned to ice. I was in my SUV and was on the road for 10 hours and still had to park it 3 miles away until the following day when I was able to drive it home. The DOT, of course, is not equipped to handle those situations so it was a traffic nightmare!
Thanks again everyone for the help Figtuna |

Look into the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500
These tires look like the RE11 the Bridgestone makes. Bridgestone had purchased Firestone a while back. Very inexpensive and have decent rating through Tirerack. I purchased a set a few weeks back and will be putting them on in a month or so. |

Hey guys....Just wanted thank everyone again. I ordered the Michelins from Tire Rack and had them installed last Monday. I am so please, already, with the performance of these tires over the OEM's. The steering is lighter and the feedback is so much more. They are quite and the ride is smooth and it instills more cornering confidence at a "spirited" pace.
I noticed the same thing when I replaced the OEM Dunlops on my 2010 FZ1 Yamaha with Michelin tires and it made a night & day difference too. I am a Michelin believer! Thanks again for the help Figtuna Last edited by Figtuna; 09-12-2016 at 10:57 PM. |
