Thinking about new nismo for daily driver but csc?
I am thinking of trading my focus at trouble free for a nismo tech white as a daily driver. I do about 40k a year and need this car to go 100k relatively trouble free. Seeing all the threads on the csc make me question it, including reviews that talk bad about the clutch.
Thoughts on long term ownership? Thanks Db |

I think you have to do a careful review of the extent to which you might find yourself driving in the snow. There are likely very few worse cars for that purpose than a 330 HP rear wheel drive sports car with 3 inches of ground clearance.
oh yeah...and the CSC. I've owned two 370Z's and haven't had an issue, but neither of them have been high-mileage daily drivers. I don't know if the CSC problem is a real thing or if it's just another internet brouhaha, but it does have my attention. If serious about the 370, I wouldn't let the CSC hold me back. As sports cars go, the 370 is a good one and very cost efficient. If I was sufficiently interested in the car and that worried about the CSC, I'd just pre-emptively replace it with a proven durable aftermarket version. I"m not, and I haven't. . If you're not willing to replace the CSC with an aftermarket solution before it fails, then you are almost guaranteed to see it fail before you reach 100K miles.
I've got 80K miles on my Z with zero major issues. I replaced the CSC before it ever failed. I've had a few issues with the CMC, but I just pre-ordered a heavy duty replacement last week. Tires are expensive, but that's mostly because I drive hard enough that I get around 8K miles on a set of rears.

forgot to add i have a jeep wrangler for bad weather duties, and i split mileage between them.
beside the 350-500$ price for the csc's referenced in the forums whats an average install cost? I have not searched too much on that but I am assuming trans removal install etc. thanks for the thoughts so far DB |

And there's no safe mileage on the csc. Some people here have had failures inside of 5k miles. Hell, one guy had it happen on the test drive. It's a great car. Don't let this scare you off. Once you get the aftermarket part in, it's basically bulletproof.

There are just a few things to fix/upgrade, and it's an amazing car for the price. Maintenance/wear costs are higher than your average DD vehicle of course, but the is totally worth it Clutch hydraulic system - CMC and CSC; fresh fluid regularly helps extend the life ESCL (steering lock on 2011 and earlier models) - easy fix with lots of info on the forum about it Throttle response - tune is the best way to handle this Clutch pedal - RJM Performance adjustable clutch pedal is a great mod and also claims to help extend the life of the CSC by reducing its throw Exhaust - the OEM note is pretty weak; tons of options on the market to tailor it to your taste, Fast Intentions being one of the most popular

Based on what you expect, do not get the 6MT. The CSC will fail. Get an auto instead. All these precautionaries are just that. None of them will keep the inevitable from happening especially with the high mileage expectation. The darn part has a plastic section. I went through two of them under warranty. My 3rd is aftermarket and replaced the 2nd oem part just when it was about to completely fail. If you want the 6MT follow JAR's advice.
Don't get me wrong. I love and have done a lot with my 6MT Z and enjoy every seat time I get. It is 67k miles of fun for me and counting. No issues except for the csc. Just want to make sure you get excellent and unbiased advice.

From my experience, it's not a matter of if, but when. I had a 15 and 16 NISMO Tech and both went out before 5000 miles (the '15 went out at half that). Both replaced under warranty and used GTR fluid in replacement.
I daily drive. |

I may end up passing, the dealer brown in dulles hasnt come off well from a business perspective, and I am not sure I can feel comfortable driving a 43k car that "will" need 1K $ of work done either under warranty or after that period, and with dealers trying to deny everything from a warranty perspective there may be other better options out there.
I may still drive one, and criswell has 2-3 of them so will see thanks for the responses. |

Good luck in your search. Test drive one and you won't look back

I am still thinking of one, Criswell in Md has a black one 6pd that i may look at.
I just cant bring self to drive an auto so I may have to bet on the CSC issue. I like my focus but its looks are getting tired and its could be time to change. |
