Default Confused between AAM axleback or Invidia Gemini catback for Nismo

Hey guys,

Having a tough time between these two. I've listened to sound clips, seen pics, etc but still cannot decide. The AAM axleback will run me $750 (including $80 cost for the 5" tips for the Nismo) whereas a local shop is running a deal on the Invidia Gemini Catback for $950 installed. My budget is no more than $1000 and sound is my priority. Just want a bit more rumble for the Nismo.

However, any extra HP in the process would be welcomed. Does anyone have either of these setups on their Nismo? If so, any dyno-proven HP gains and could you share some pics? And how are you liking the setup?

I've read that the Invida causes a HP loss in some cases. Is there any validity to this? It also doesn't have a flex section...is this a problem?

Thanks

Follow up question. I thought the NISMO stock exhaust was already opened up a bit more than the non-Nismo exhausts.

Wouldn't you just want to replace the cats with some HFC or test pipes instead?

I believe it is, but I'm looking for some sound. Test pipes would be too raspy (I had a similar setup on my old 350z) and HFCs might be too quiet for the sound I'm looking for

Edit: I think you might be talking about the Nismo S-tune exhaust, which actually had proven HP gains over the regular 370z exhaust. The exhaust that comes with the Nismo is not the S-tune and I'm not even sure it's any more free flowing than a regular 370z exhaust

I did not know that.

The AAM axle back system looks great and sounds awesome, it is on the loud side and you will get some rasp with it at about 3500rpms...there is little no gain in horse power. The Invidia is not a bad choice but I would by a used Fast Intentions exhaust as they are great looking and sound better. A full exhaust will give you noticeable gains horsepower. If you don't have the cash for a cold air intake, I would get K&N drop in air filters and you are good to go.

Problem with the axleback is I don't find it sounding any more different than the OEM exhaust

Are you talking about the AAM short tails? It sounds like you are. Here is the axleback I'm looking at from AAM:

AAM Competition - Nissan GT-R, 370Z Turbo Performance Specialists

As opposed to the short tails which I do NOT want:
AAM Competition - Nissan GT-R, 370Z Turbo Performance Specialists

Roger that...regardless I would still go with a 2.5" exhaust over just the axle back. The Nismo exhaust, though better than the oem is still restrictive. A bett flowing exhaust will give you better sound and performance. Take it from me send wisely the first time because it going to cost you even more when you are unhappy with your first decision. Here was my journey....AAM short tails, AAM true dual exhaust and now my current set up, Fast Intentions 3" exhaust.

It is tempting...

This one right? The TDX?
Fast Intentions

Shipping is an extra $130, so that's $1260 to my door, plus another $100 or so for the install (I'm not doing it myself - no space).

The Invidia Gemini is $950 installed. That's a $400 savings...

I did find out that the Invidia system does not have a flex pipe... this worries me a bit. It should have a flex portion for obvious reasons
