I think I'll settle for a FI catback. However, a vendor here who I've done business with before is giving me a great price for the HKS true dual setup.

My question is this. Is the Nismo oem exhaust on my car right now a true dual exhaust? If not, and if I get an aftermarket true dual setup, would that require a tune? I don't have intakes or test pipes/HFCs, etc, but if this exhaust will change the setup, I'm thinking a tune may be necessary compared to an exhaust like Invidia that isn't a true dual exhaust Last edited by Rahul718; 09-09-2015 at 03:13 PM. |

Okay, the Nismo exhaust is an H or dual exhaust system. It is not bad but it is not 2.5" all the way through. FI is an X pipe system, both of these systems have pluses and minuses but are much better than the Nismo exhaust system. You don't have to get a tune with any of them as the ECU will learn and make adjustments. A tune will benefit you in other areas like throttle response and maximizing your performance, but I would wait until you add a cold air intake and test pipes or HFC. Don't over think it right now because you only have so much money for mods. Get the parts first and then get a tune.

You can do what im doing and get short tails for the instant noise gratification and get a shop to build you a custom kit, Ask them for the price on whatever you want it cant hurt. Im getting a 2.5 custom x pipe, stainless works resonators and maybe a muffler, no cats $700 installed.

I guarantee you're going to find the aam short tails too loud. Had them on my nismo for just a few weeks before I went stock, then I saved up for my fast intentions CBE

I won't get too hung up on diameter, your down pipes are 1.75", you can have a dual 10" exhaust but you'll still be going through a 1.75" tube. A better designed X or H pipe systems with less steel wool in the muffler (louder) will provide the most power increase. Removal of the steel wool from the oem nismo axle back would provide gains similar to most aftermarket system, though not sure about the quality of the sound. I've only seen one person do it so far though but it would be the lowest cost alternative.

I have an E370 Motordyne exhaust and ART pipes. You would definitely feel the gains on the car. I went for a baseline dyno and got 323hp and 269tq, with no CAI.
I will be going for a tune in two weeks to get proper numbers. |
