Hello all. I am completely new to Owning a Nismo 370z. Never even owned a 370/350z base model. So this is my very first one. It already has Apexi exhaust.

A Dyno tune should be done AFTER you're done with all bold-on mods to get the most gains from of all of your parts.
My first performance mod, if you could consider it as a performance mod, was replacing the clutch helper spring. Google "370z century spring p/n 72577". It was a great cheap mod that really helped get a better feel of the clutch. Costs $20 but you will definitely enjoy driving the car even more. Second mod could be some type of intake or oil cooler. I went wit a Stillen G3 intake, was pricey but worth it, I definitely felt some gains right away. Congrats and welcome to Z land!!

I agree with Zbrah 100%. That's what I did too. Had the clutch helper spring on before 25 miles. Got the Stillen G III a month later. Plus you have a decent exhaust so the intake would be the next logical mod. After that, get the dyno tune, and you'll be good for a while. Congrats on the purchase too.

Yeah I agree with what everyone has said. Cleaning up the breathing is the best place to start. You already have the exhaust so doing the intake side would be next. You can get a full intake (~$400) or you can do K&N drop-ins with Post-MAF tubes (~$200). A tune is not necessary yet. You can get gains from a tune now but wait until you have cleaned up the breathing and you will get better results.

Tune. It will fix that godawful throttle response on a stock Z. Once you have a few bolt-ons, you'll want the tune anyway to take full advantage of their performance gains
The only thing about getting tune first is you may end up paying for extra tuning/dyno time if you choose to get re-tuned as you install bolt-ons.

I agree with the clutch helper spring and the intake first. We sell the Stillen Gen 3 intake twice as much as any other brand, seems to be the most popular.
If you are going to dive more into replacing the rest of the exhaust, hold off on the tune at least until after that.

Once you're finished with your breathing mods (intake/exhaust). Get a tune. This way you only have to pay for it once. When you get your tune. Have them fix the throttle response and reset when the cooling fans come on. Don't let them raise the rpm limiter.
For an intake. I have the Stillen G3. The clutch helper spring works. Got of those. Also get an oil cooler. I have the Z1 34 row unit. Read through my journal to get an idea on which way you want to go, and which things that you might want.

You have to be careful putting a remote start on a manual car and don't park it in gear or else when you start it while in gear, you can have an expensive mishap. There are systems that monitor the e-brake but not the shifter.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I looked up Gen 3 Stillen intake, and it looks weird...is this the right one? Looking at the engine, it looks like these would be too long.
Edit: After looking a little further, it seems they tuck down underneath in front of the radiator? https://www.stillen.com/performance/...ssan-370z.html Last edited by GunWorxx; 08-31-2015 at 08:53 PM. |
