Default 2015 Nismo Z pricing opinions

Hey all.

I am in shopping mode for the 2015 370z Nismo. I have decided on a pearl white base Nismo. The options wanted are:

1. Floor mats
2. Trunk mat
3. Illuminated kick plates

With the base Nismo and these options the car MSRP is $42,410.

I have had one dealer give me a first quote of $39,848. This translates to $42,527.47 out the door price. That is taxes, doc fee, and temporary plate.

A second dealer has an "internet price" of $40,300. I have not spoken with this dealer yet about giving me their best price.

Pricing sounds pretty good. I think that is close to being fair. What do you think? Is there still much room to drop?

Super edit. Reread you are getting the nismo. Pay invoice or less period. Our Z's depreciate big time

How can a person pay less than invoice? Isn't invoice pricing the actual cost of the car without profit? I don't think any dealer wants to loose money.

Not concerned with depreciation. This would be my third car in my life. I am almost 42. I plan to keep this car for a long time.

Is truecar some sort of website? I will google it.

Checked it out. Thanks BehindSpace.

Here is what Truecar says:
Invoice price for 2015 Nismo base is $39,761. Add options, destination fees and stuff the total becomes $41,301. This is the before tax price. If this price from Truecar is accurate then a dealer offering to sell at around $40,000 seems good and fair. Agreed?

This is one of those topics that always seems to peak my interest since I've been in retail for about twenty years now. Knowing the dealers invoice before you go in can be fine but most dealers now days will be fair since so much information has become public with the inter web. That being said just ask the dealer to see their invoice and they will most likely show you but you also should be polite enough to offer them a simple profit (obviously only if the ask for one) but by that I mean a couple hundred. Yes there are kick backs that they call hold back below that cost that they may even dip into. But keep in mind a dealership or any business for that matter that sells at little to no profit at all will not be around for the long haul to service your needs if they are losing money. Bottom line is none of us work for companies that don't work on a profit margin to pay ALL of their employees or the company would be considered a charity.

On a side note no one should ever worry about how quickly your purchase will depreciate unless you only plan on keeping it for a very short period of time. Just be sure you are treated fairly and you are happy with the overall deal. Trust me you will love the Z, I'm looking for daily excuses to drive mine and I could care less what the dealer made on me.

Pay invoice or less. They still are making money at the price. I have bought 5 new cars in the last two years So I know this tactic very well. If they aren't making money off the deal they won't sell it Unless it's been sitting in the lot over 90 days. Every now and again they will do take a loss on a vehicle but that offset is ok since most people are too inexperienced on educating themselves prior to buying. I have heard every BS story out there saying they aren't making any money and I walk away when I smell it. It took a week for me to get my deal on my Z. They cracked.

I bought a brand new 2013 NISMO with the same specs out the door for $41,090... that got totaled.. Then Bought a 2014 NISMO brand new, without those specs, but BOSE system upgrade out the door for $41,030.

You are correct and share my thoughts as well. Being self-employed myself I know what you mean. I am not looking to get the car for free. If the dealer is pleasant to deal with, honest, and straight forward then I would pay extra and view it as a tip to them. I am not a person to pay at or near sticker price either. If I can get the car for 40k before tax then I would be happy. Heck, a different dealer already quoted me 39.8k before tax.

You are buying a car that drops value immediately the minute you drive it off the lot. Do not feel sorry for them or give them a tip. This is your money And Don't be a fool and Give it away.

Everything you buy drops in value the second you leave the store with it like I mentioned but that is only an issue if you intend to sell it shortly after you purchase it. The point that I guess I was trying to make is you should also look at the simple fact of customer service and having a dealer that will go the extra mile for you. Now by no means to I feel that dealers are losing money and building these elaborate dealerships with all that glass and marble but the internet has lowered margins for every industry around the globe (except for petroleum). If a dealer offers up the back end money as well as all of the other freebies by all means take it but how one is treated by a dealership now days is very important.
