From Coupe to Roadster

Today I traded in my 2009 370Z coupe for a 2010 Z Touring Roadster. She is magnetic black with wine leather interior and bordeaux canvas top. 7AT with nav package too. Drove it out of the dealership with the top down.........60 degrees and clear (cold for south Florida). Perfect for the top down.

Congrats! 60f is not bad with the top down with the heater on and the seats toasty warm :)

from roadster to coupe

Congrats! Lucky you with top down in fla. Nice that you're actually driving your Z. Mine is just sitting real pretty in the garage with the top up in in NY. When people stop by, they head for the garage and stand around looking at the Z. Hardly anyone comes in my house anymore! The pizza delivery guy automatically comes to the garage door now. LOL

What did they give you in trade on the coupe?

dalparadise 02-14-2010 11:47 AM

I drove mine away from the dealer about six weeks ago with the top down. It was about 50 on that day.

Congrats on the conversion. I came really close to buying a coupe last year myself, but dug down deep for some will power to wait for the Roadster. You will love this car.

We're looking at partly cloudy and about 67 degrees here in Texas today. Great day for a drive.

The dealer gave me $30,500 on the trade. The pix are old then new.

i've never driven the coupe, can you do some comparisons?

- cabin noise level
- cabin space
- power (ours are 200lbs. heavier than the coupe, can you tell?)
- handling
- there's a space in the trunk for a jack but i didn't get a jack...did you?

**** I found the top-up noise level to be roughly the same or maybe a bit quieter than the coupe. Top down, the "noise" shifts from engine and tire noise to exhaust note -- a very pleasant, and welcome tone.

- cabin space

**** The Roadster feels a bit more cramped than the coupe, mostly due to perception of having the bulkhead, rather than the open hatch behind you. I also perceive there to be maybe 1/2" less legroom in the Roadster, though official measurements are identical.

- power (ours are 200lbs. heavier than the coupe, can you tell?)

**** I could not tell any difference in power or performance.

- handling

**** I haven't really pushed either car in the handling department. Street ride seems really the same, for what that's worth. I'd imagine the coupe would be a better choice if handling is your determining factor, though. There probably is a point that you can push a roadster to cowl shake or body flex, but I haven't gotten there yet.

**** Nope, no jack in mine, either. The Roadster doesn't have a spare, so an emergency jack is useless. You fix a flat with the tire kit.

Thanks for the response! When I first drove the Roadster home, the interior cabin sounded like I had a rear window slightly open as cars were passing by. I just attributed that to being in a soft top. The cabin is really snug even for me and I'm only 5'8", 160lbs. I remember I felt like I had a lot more room in my '06 350Z but then that was years ago and I'm a lot older (read: fatter) now, lol...

btw, i think you and i have the same car! i have PG, black leather, touring, sport, 6MT with navi =)

how's that stubby antenna? reception ok?

John Bradley 02-14-2010 08:31 PM

Congrats !!! Yeah get the stubby antenna

dalparadise 02-14-2010 08:39 PM

Yeah, stubby works fine, though I gave up on terrestrial radio years ago and almost never use it. I switch over to FM when I pull the car into my garage for detailing and the satellite reception goes out.
