Welcome to the forum, one thing your friend should do is fix his credit when he gets back on his feet. I had a friend who did the same, put money into a car that he did not own. I highly recommend bolt on inexpensive mods on a car that you are still financing. Once the car is paid, then go all out, until then keep it simple. Just my 2 cents.
Also is the VW is FWD? A 1.8L spooled faster than a 3.7 RWD? I don't know much about VW's that's why I ask. The only VW that I know of is the old bug where tuners would swap Porsche motors into them. Anyway good luck and welcome. |

Well, I agree with you but understand this, he wanted a used GT-R but "they are hard to find used" (bs number 1, used GT-Rs are everywhere so don't even play that card) so then he goes off to say that the Z isn't fast enough AND better yet his VW is faster with the FWD ( he already lost me there I raged to a point of no return) then he mentioned the Stillen SC which I couldn't do anything but rage quit. not to mention him paying off the car in a year LOL

Wow...
Ok 1st off i have 7 cars. And no no hondas, actually all german except the frontier and now the z. My friend didnt dump money into it, he bought it like that. Has bad credit. He was trying to recoup some cash. I got the z as a more reliable option. What does it matter that my gti is a 2003? They only made 1000 yellow in the u.s. a civic? Wow really? Nissan is the only japanese line i like, and 80% being because of the gtr. Pay off in a year ehmm yeah i never pay minimum payments...all my cars are paid off. Plus i sold 3 of my quads and will be putting the 11k into the loan. If you pay minimum payments on your car good luck. The z drives well, but lacks power, and if you cant see that then i bet you havent driven many fast cars. It has a ton of potential and love the look. In other news, just installed a pioneer touchscreen and custom sub box w sub and amp. |

David it isnt as easy as you think. The nearest gtr was 5hrs away, but all of the ones i saw were being financed. My bank wouldnt finance me without the car here and the title. The people couldnt get the title without the cash. Wouldnt work. Plus i wanted to stay at 65k max. Yes the gti is fwd sooo? What rwd adds power? Thats how much you know.

Yep. The kit alone is 10k. Supporting mods will be another 3-5k. That's all before you figure in labor and tuning.

My remark wasn't an attack, but an '09 Z goes for somewhere in the ballpark of 22-28k . Add 20k for a turbo kit, parts/labor/tune included, and you're still under the price of any '09 GTR I can find for sale. For 65k you could turn a used Z into a twin turbo beast with any sort of navigation system you wanted, rework the suspension, paint it yellow, and Still have money to spare. So no, it doesn't add up to me.
What also doesn't add up is how a 5-second 0-60/13.5-ish 1/4 mile could ever be called slow or sluggish. Sure, there are faster, better cars. They're also 2-3x the price, which your target of under 65k could have easily bought. Also FWD isn't inherently bad, if you don't care about weight distribution, wheel hop, understeer, and so on. FWD works great in 90% of driving situations. I guess what I don't understand is, if you can afford 7 turbo cars that all make the Z feel like bus, and you have 65k to spare, why does this thread even exist? Shouldn't you just be asking where the closest shop is that you can give your money to? By all means please do! We need as much aftermarket activity as possible! At some point these turbo kits need to become affordable for people like me! |

David, so why spend 20k on a rwd car when u can get an awd car? I have an audi tt 2010 and its awd. Why dump money into an awd? Im not bashing the 370z at all i love it but it is lacking power period. And yes i hope the kits go lower. Im assuming ud need to upgrade clutch, injectors, fuel pump, tuning, rods, and pistons as well as the turbo kit. Im really excited about this car as i see alot of potential. And the 7 cars arent all turbo, i have a 5cyl rabbit, and a 4x4 lifted frontier. The rest are my work truck is a 7.3 powerstroke diesel. Does anyone here make a good kit for under 10k? Even a single turbo setup

Your opinion is just that and that's cool, but a lot of us think the power plant is just fine. My SRT8 will spin circles around Nismo as far as straight line speed, but it doesn't lack at all to me and I'm use to driving pretty fast cars. Just a quick question, "how much power would you have liked to see a 370z come out the factory with"?

I think 380 but turbo or supercharged that way we wouldnt have to do much for real good power. Say it was turbo itd be a beast. You tune it up the boost, exhaust, boost controller and ud ve at an easy 440 hp with a bad *** kick. Even better.....imagine this car with the gtr engine and awd?? And standard!? They could sell it at 70 to 80k easy.

I think stock for stock, without any mods how will the 1.8 compete against the 370z? One of my buddies who is still stuck in the stone age dropped 30k in mods on a Civic...Why because he is stuck in the stone age. At the end of the day it is still a Civic no matter how fast it goes LoL. Not to mention the panels flex when he goes over 100mph (somewhere along those lines). The car was not built to go that fast. He should have saved his money for an actual sports car instead.
My point is that the 370z no matter what is a Z, and I agree, it does feel like it is lacking a tiny bit of power on the low end for me, that's just me. But the car itself without any mods, overall feels great, it sticks to ground, it moves when I need it to and the exterior design is sweet, and the price--depending on where you buy--is affordable to most. Some say it is not practical without backseats, but who is buying a sports car for practicality? Anyway congrats on the purchase, you got a good deal IMHO, 20K for an 09 seems about right if you talk a good game at the stealership. |
