Fuel Consumption: 2014 370Z - 322HP

I am on the verge of buying this cool machine and I'm looking for some real answers about fuel and fuel comsumption.

1) Does this Z require premium fuel to run correctly?

2) I can see Nissan's published figures about MPG; are these figures close to reality? I commute 62 miles one way to work, 45 miles are non-stop on the NYS Thruway (Interstate). What do you guys get for city, highway and mix?

Yes, and you'll probably get close to the published numbers with that much highways driving

Yes, the Z requires premium fuel or else you might risk engine knock. Secondly, the numbers are accurate to what the website says, but don't keep the engine RPM's up too much or too low, or else fuel consumption rises quite rapidly, especially if you decide to install a forced induction system. For the city on a stock 2014 370z with sport package, I get around 18-20 MPG in the city and 24-27 MPG on the highway when cruising.

I have 100,000klms on my DD Z34 and lifetime fuel is 10.7 litres per 100Klms.

This includes a whole bunch of track-days (40+) as well as an 80km round-trip commute (35km freeway and 5km to get into CBD and reverse in the evening) - Figure 60km freeway running per day @ 110kph - the rest is pre-rush-hour crawl, morning and evening.

The car has only ever run 98-octane (RON) fuel - it is NOT HAPPY if run on anything less as knock sensor pulls ludicrous amounts of timing out of the tune.

As Nico Rosberg said to his pitwall team during the F1 Grand Prix in China last Sunday, when they kept on asking him to relay his fuel consumption figures, "I am going to have to stop doing it now. It's getting really annoying."

It's a 370z. It's not a Leaf. Pleasure comes at a cost.

Do Z owners bought a Z because they worry about gas millage ?
I quit worrying after I got rid of my Veloster. If you are concern, don't buy this car, by a leaf or a Prius.

It's not a commuter. It's not a luxury car with roomy, plush interior and Carnegie Hall sound system. It's a rear-wheel drive sports car, it handles poorly in the snow, it's small, has no luggage capacity, is noisy, and if you drive it to conserve gas, all you have is a small, cramped, noisy, summer car that requires premium fuel and gets meciocre gas mileage. You've robbed it of its reason for existence. This car is a blast to drive, but only if you focus on the driving, not the cost. Like most cars in its class, it's not a practical vehicle.

In answer to your question, I predict you'll get 23 - 25 mpg driving it like your grandmother in the conditions you describe. I have found Nissan's mileage estimates to be reasonably accurate. IMHO, be more worried about tire costs. They're $800 - $1200 a set and will get about 15,000 miles.

I hate to cry like a baby about this fuel topic, but I'm an info guy (hey, I'm an engineer) and I like to know what I'm getting into. I generally drive at 80 MPH on a divided limited-access highway for about 50 miles ..... twice per day. If I've got a 2014 370Z between my legs ...... what sort of fuel mileage do you think I'd see?

I do see your response ..... but I'd never drive that bomb like Grandma. A ride like this feels better when the tires are pressed into the turn.

i only run 93 octane through mine.

i'm avg 18.8 MPG and my drive to work is only about 25 miles round trip no highway. yes a few weekend drives i take are a little longer and on highways but it all equals out in the end.

also that low because i drive like an asshole and my right foot is usually buried in the loud pedal sooooo

straight pipes will do that to a man i guess.

I get 19 mpg driving it to work in the city. I get 25 mph driving 80 mph on the highway. I get 10-15 mpg driving spiritedly on public roads. I got 5-10 mpg driving it 6 laps at COTA.

I happen to know all of these numbers because I habitually keep track of my gas consumption. I just don't care what they are

Also, premium only. If you're considering not putting premium in the Z, don't consider buying one.

This is very much like what we would get in ours. I was the spirited driver so it didn't do well with me behind the wheel. My wife drove it as a DD to work and averaged 19 to 21 depending on the shifts she was working (whether she was driving in rush hour or off times). When we went on a trip she would get around 25 to 27 and I would get around 19 on the highway. I have a lead foot.

Lesson? Z's dont do well on gas if you like to drive, if you are using it for a commuter they can do OK and despite what is said it was one of the best commuter cars we owned. The wife is working really hard to get me to buy another Z. Probably not far off.

These numbers you guys get on MPG is AMAZING im at 13 mpg city only and at this point i lost hope no fks given

I purchased my Z as a daily commuter and I get just above 20 mpg, and this includes plenty of So Cal freeway time.
