17 year old might get a 370z (HI)

hi guys! so i just wanted to join up and say hi. :hello: i would imagine that i will get a lot of crap about it, but here we go... so im 17 (october 1st) and i currently drive a 2003 3.0i bmw z4 (E85) ya thats right 17 and drives a bmw  so now that thats out of the way, i wanted to get you'r input about a 17 year old getting a 370z. i know, i know a lot of you are gonna say "its to much power" and bla bla bla! but im not some teenage ricer that would run a fart can and underbody glow. i drive with my sport mode on only when its safe and leave racing for the drag strip. so i dont plan on getting my self killed ;) but i love the extra 20 hp over my z4, and i also want to stay with the whole "Z" car line. so aside from the whole "Too much power, and hormones" speech do you think a 370z is a good car for me? or should i just go for a 350z? if i was to get a 350z it would be a 2003.

P.S here is my baby

vacuum and wash once a month, i just hit 155k miles

If your first post is about your age...then it's gonna stay about your age..

No one cares if you're responsible...

Welcome

Welcome

guess your right :tiphat: i just dont want people thinking im just gonna be giving z drivers a bad name by trying to be fast and furious. i am just curious if people would agree that a 370 is a good 2nd car considering my age.

Grindkiezer 12-26-2013 02:00 AM

No one cares how old you are

And obviously we're going to give you the too much power not enough responsibility talk, so... either get it and don't tell us your age or don't get it and don't tell us your age... Or don't tell us tell us your age right off the bat, expect us to judge, then expect us to not judge.
If you want to know if it's a good car, you came to the wrong place. We're Z owners 99.9% of us like our cars.

PEPI 12-26-2013 03:28 AM

When I was 17 I drove an old Ford Cortina with a Slant 6 225 - my first car.... the memories. Maybe a thread started about first cars owned and built etc.

As to your question what forum members would think regarding your age and thoughts owning a 370z?

Who gives a ****?

....oh yeah welcome.

axmea? 12-26-2013 03:33 AM

Glad you can feel the extra 20 under your arse but keep your E85 and keep the monthly clean up routine. You don't need a Z34.

DEpointfive0 12-26-2013 03:39 AM

Why would you get a 2003 350Z?
How many miles have you put on the Z4 and in how much time?

SmallermouseZ 12-26-2013 03:44 AM

ur age doesnt really matter unless u wana boast about it, my friend who just turned 16 got a 2014 gtr black ed. cant complain about parent's money.

itBurns 12-26-2013 07:15 AM

Age shouldn't be a factor - it's all about maturity.

You'll have the majority of kids your age who would be reckless and just can't handle it, and a select few who would actually respect the car. That decision is up to you which you fall under.

If you can afford it, go for it. Get what you want.

6MT 12-26-2013 02:26 PM

Hi

mults 12-26-2013 02:34 PM

If we all bought and drove our cars by our age, I should be driving a Toyota Camry and wearing the space shuttle sunglasses :rofl2:. However, if you can afford (and respect) the Z34 then get it.

Every age of drivers cannot be represented by one individual. Not all 17 years olds drive ricers and not all 60 years olds drive "luxury, cushy cars", so get whatever you want and don't give a $hit what others think.

Good Luck with your decision and oh by-the-way, welcome.

:wtf2:

I don't think we need to convince you, I think you need to convince yourself that's the car you want. We all love our cars, for various reasons. And put in time and effort to look at the pro's and con's. Spend your week off high school productive and research!

:iagree:
I spent weeks researching various cars once I was confident that my income stream was stable post-college. I recommend it highly. It's one thing to impulse buy a car you've researched out the wazoo, and another thing entirely to impulse buy a car that you have no clue what's going on with or what could be wrong with it.

Elan 12-26-2013 03:58 PM

I agree with the peanut gallery. Age isn't important. If you feel you are responsible enough, then there is nothing wrong with getting a Z34. I know some 17 year olds and even younger whom are more responsible than most adults. I've also seen 40+ act like the are 15 year olds or younger. At the end of the day, get the car you want and enjoy. If you wrap it around a pole because you are immature, well than that's on you. I think you can handle it.

enkei2k 12-26-2013 04:23 PM

I vote for the Z(3)4.

:icon17:

Go ahead, you've earned it champ.

Running4Mayor 12-26-2013 05:26 PM

When I was 17 I had a….. Wait! I had my feet and a bus pass. Nice ride by the way you should keep the beamer and get a Z34.

Welcome

im 17 too. like a few decades ago. :ugh:

ElVee 12-26-2013 06:03 PM

Are you earning this car with your own money or is someone buying it for you?

Age doesn't matter so much as maturity, responsible driving, and being able to be take care of oneself. Neither age nor the car make the person.

I personally find no reason to pick 350z over a 370z if you can afford it. However, I will just say that most 17 year olds I know have horrible habits, skyhigh insurance, poor job(s), poor career, and need to protect their personal debt before they're in big trouble before even 21. Make sure the important things in life are being taken care of before the expensive toys. :)

Also, the Z looks great, but performance-wise is starting to show it's age. Just keep that in mind as well! (Then again, performance-wise, it's not like you can hit 8/10s of the Z on public roads anyway.)

DEpointfive0 12-26-2013 06:04 PM

Great answer ElVee!

wat are you talking about? if you can DRIVE a 350Z, you're elite status. they are the #1 killer cars according to consumer reports.

and you know, consumer reports is 100% accurate each and every time.

kenchan 12-26-2013 06:25 PM

or was it some other shitt car mag article? cant remember...

TreeSemdyZee 12-27-2013 12:02 PM

Anybody on here NOT think they were responsible at 17?

TripleBlkZ 12-27-2013 12:13 PM

All I'm going to say is good for you if you earned you car its a great car and you will enjoy it but on the flip side don't come and post a week later after getting it that you bounced it off a curb or something like that.

Waiz 12-27-2013 12:35 PM

If you already have a 2 seat sports car then buying another 2 seat sports car is a wash

Question is who is buying this car?

SmokeEater27 12-27-2013 01:24 PM

OP, I say if youre blessed enough to be able to drive a 370z then so be it. I just think in general being 17 and owning a 370z or any nice sports car is going to come with the "spoiled snot nose teen" stigma. Now how you react to it can either make or break your image within a car community or forum such as this. Humility will always take you a longer way and is more respected in every aspect of life; as opposed to some young guys of your age group who try to come on here and boast or claim they've worked "So hard" to get their car. I would also say that no matter how much you tell people you wont drive like a "ricer" or drive like fast and the furious everyone is going to relate to their own experiences from being young once and probably having a car accident in their time. Hell when I was 16 my first car was a 95' beat to sh!t toyota camry. One day driving I thought that I could reverse like a champ and at higher speed. I ended up hitting a mailbox and in a panic of thinking I put the car in drive i hit the gas again to only keep going in reverse and hit a parked car (I honestly was a Sh!tty driver at that age). Luckily my car was a hooptie already but i did have to replace the mailbox and pay for the other damaged car. So unless you're Richard Petty's son and you were born behind a steering wheel you're still going to have alot of real world driving experience to obtain and the Z might not be the perfect car for that in my honest opinion. But more power to you if you can afford it or have family willing to help pay for it. If you get the car enjoy it and try not to do anything too stupid or atleast save it for a track day or something. Nice bimmer by the way :tiphat: and welcome to the forums.

12-27-2013 01:58 PM

I bought my first z when i was 17 brand new back in 05 never looked back love the z its history. I recommend getting a new z the DE motor is obsolete look into the hr motor more bang for the dollar.

Zensation 12-27-2013 02:03 PM

I think someone in your walk of life is more suited for the 350z. The z4 is not in the z car line so you would be "staying" with the z car line. You would simply be moving to the z car line. Why oogle eyes over a 17 yr old driving a bmw? Justin beiber had a lamborghini at 17 do you think your special? Every trailer park around my area has at least 1 brand new bmw parked next to a double wide. Then again i live 5 miles from the bmw north america factory.

Best peace of advice youll find on here is save your money and go to college.

Waiz 12-27-2013 02:06 PM

OP should really be in a simple car while he is in school and then get a Z when he can afford it with his own money like most of us have done

skidad62 12-27-2013 02:18 PM

I think daddy should reign in his little boy... 370Z & turning 17... how bout getting him a job and some teaching him to earn some things in life.

Zensation 12-27-2013 02:37 PM

The op's post was clearly just meant to start a fire storm.

Cmike2780 12-27-2013 02:52 PM

You can do what you like with your money, but rest assured, most people will see you as a spoiled brat in a sports car. Not saying its right or wrong, just saying that its going to be most people's reaction.

If I were still 17, I'd want a Z, but I can honestly tell you that driving an old pos Jeep XJ beater I earned and payed for by working in a bagel shop was one of my favorite cars. Sure my parents could have bought me a new car, but I'm honestly glad they didn't. Kudos if you've somehow accumulated this money on your own. If mom and dad are the ones paying for it though, sounds like they're trying to make up for something :twocents:

I've just seen too many 17 year olds racing and wrecking cars in my area to not be a bit skeptical. The statistics don't lie and most drivers aren't as skilled & exceptional as they think they are. At 17, you have 2-3 years of on-road driving experience tops. With one of your reasons for switching being the extra 20hp, it tells us that you're a bit naïve. Even starting this very topic makes you naïve.

If you're grownz up and want the Z, you buy the Z. You don't need our opinion on the Z being a good car and there are certainly plenty of threads on the pros and cons to ownership.

XiP 12-27-2013 02:58 PM

If I were you OP I'd save the money and put it towards paying for college or investing in something. You already have a nice car...

falconfixer 12-29-2013 12:29 PM

I'm calling BS. Everyone knows that BMWs explode after the lease is up so no way Daddy's Z4 is still running with 155K on it.

Waiz 12-29-2013 02:06 PM

OP basically threw a grenade into the room and ran

I think we may have a troll on our hands
