Almost bought a BRZ, but got myself a 370Z instead.

Hi folks, I was checking out a Scion FR-S but with lack of options, I went to Subaru for a BRZ Limited. For $2k you get a lot of bells and whistles... BUT that wouldn't be enough. I would need to get rid of them dinky, skinny tires and a better looking/sounding exhaust. That'll be another $3k probably. So it keeps on adding up. No matter the hype, so-called handling, "fun to drive", etc. at the end of the day, you still lacking power.

So... why not get a 370Z that's already has balls- wouldn't have to change a darn thing! I'm so happy with my purchase. I miss my 300ZX. Left to NY and I sold it to a friend. After 4 years and back in Los Angeles, I know my Pearl White 370Z will fill the void.

It's raining now, can't get a good pic. But here's the inside. Notice I got the navigation package, only because I cant stand looking at the useless, cubby hole!

Finally got around to putting up pictures HERE!

Congratulations :)

kfull 12-21-2013 03:26 PM

congrats! the brz would have been underwhelming

mab864 12-21-2013 06:34 PM

Congrats on the Z. Good choice. I think I drove all the sport cars and muscle cars up to about $40K and I have to say the BRZ was my second favorite. It did seem to have some pretty good handling characteristics, but OMG does it need a turbo. I drove the Z and it was all over. Perfect balance of handling and performance. I'm happy too. Congrats again!

Beatiful setup! Just like mine! White was my foirst choice but there were none to be had. Do you have the Sport Package?

No i didn't get it the price was adding up and I do like the 18" wheels. Suspension is good as is, don't need it too rough or stiff and I'll never track. Just normal driving.

No tracking here either unless you count the freeways on early Saturday morning. I see you are just up the road, if we have a gathering in the area you'll have to come!

madmike23 12-22-2013 10:46 PM

Yea. I'll show up. But mine may be boring, I'm not going to do any mods. Think it's good as is. I did get a clear bra/shield on it though. That's about it.

winnre 12-22-2013 11:47 PM

This video makes me wish I got a Z sooner!!!

^^ Nice vid.

TerribleONE 12-23-2013 12:21 AM

Good choice and congrats. The cubby hole is definitely not useless!

critical 12-23-2013 12:30 AM

the sport package is upgraded brakes, differential, and wheels. also SRM. nothing to do with stiffness or suspension. just an FYI

Yea, I thought hard about it... I was already over budget as-is. So getting rid of the cubby took priority.

DEpointfive0 12-23-2013 12:51 AM

Welcome, I hate the FRZ

Nice video. My parents had an orange 260ZX with the louvers on the rear window. I remember that push button stereo, think I was 5 years old at the time. And I miss my white 300ZX. It's still awesome.

You have chosen wisely -- congrats

Well done on the purchase and im sure you will have fun.

Im the opposite and went for the useless cubby hole as I cant stand Nav screens at night when driving, this will probs be my last car without one as the options for a vehicle lacking in a TV screen on the dash are getting more and more limited!

phantom370z 12-23-2013 07:58 AM

Although I LOVE the BRZ in terms of feel/size/handling, it's hideously under-powered and not even close to the overall package that you decided on IMO. Great choice!

Crayon 12-23-2013 09:38 AM

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I went and test drove the BRZ first, as my family has been pretty huge on Subaru's for some time (Dad has an STI, mom drives a Forester). I liked it, it was "fun", but had no guts. Got to the Nissan dealership, test drove the Nismo, loved the crap out of it, and bought it.

The Subaru dealership even called me to "make sure I hadn't bought a Nissan", hah!

Jasonle 12-23-2013 09:41 AM

Congrats! Welcome aboard

NissanGuy23 12-23-2013 09:44 AM

Congrats, post up some pics. I love pearl white

I different differential? Really? Do you know what the original is and the upgrade? This is interesting.

He means sport package has limited slip diff vs the open one on non sports.
Also I thought the springs were a little stiffer on sport vs non sport.

But OP congrats on purchase. Before I got Z, I debated about FRS and Genesis coupe.

the base model has an open differential and the sport has a VLSD

Well whats cool with this navigation screen is the easy access buttons to brightness. I Like controls in my line of sight. The cubby makes the stereo all the way on the bottom. Don't like to look down.

And I gotta say, love the ipod hook up, Bluetooth audio and (still learning) the backup camera.

I've been around. It's stiff, and it also suspension (sport shocks). Also, 19" could be louder and not as comfortable. Is the ride "extremely" rough? Probably not, but it was all adding up so I chose only 1 package and it was navigation. I also like the stock 18" wheels design. I would love to have the VLSD and bigger brakes, but my brakes are good enough and I'm driving just fine in Los Angeles.

Looks good, paint film is a must in my book and you did well to go with full hood. I've already got a chip not far past where my xpel ends.

Oh, that's too bad. Yea, I remember there was a huge chunk chipped right center hood on my other car. :shakes head:

beharris 12-31-2013 05:58 PM

I recently made the same choice and I'm glad I did.

Zteven 03-08-2014 12:02 AM

Lol I almost bought an frs/brz until I test drove them. I was gonna get it for invoice and it still wasn't good enough.

Hi

c41006 03-08-2014 01:36 PM

Welcome

mjm 03-12-2014 11:15 PM

I made the same choice! I was looking at a BRZ Limited, but decided on the Z instead. I knew I wouldn't be happy with only 200 hp.
