I did snoop around before making a decision, the dealer I got it from said they did a 160 point inspection, but I should have asked specifically about that problem... Thanks

I did purchase a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty, if something happened that should be covered, right?

even though that DIY fix with cutting the wire looks easy enough

Nissan issued a tech bulletin but it WILL leave you stranded if it fails. Easy fix though...so not to worry. Search Steering Lock Failure, choose "show post" and choose your fix (a couple available).

It's a factory recall, kind of....It is covered by Nissan. So no worries. My last Z was an 09' and I had it for 2 years with no problems. Have fun with her.

Pulling the fuse is even easier . yes nissan will replace it but there is no guarantee the new one wont fail like the rest and why take the risk of being stuck somewhere waiting for the tow truck .

Good idea. They might fix it for under warranty you but if you are out and suddenly it won't start it is a pain in the rear. You could be on the side of the road in the middle of no where. Better to be proactive than to have to deal with it at a time you may not want to or be safe to.
