New Nismo owner

Hi everyone I am Matt. I just bought a 2010 Nismo edition Z Magnetic Black with Navigation. Love the car so far. I have 300,000 plus miles on Hondas including two Integras [one 97 GSR I had for 16 years that I just sold and had 211,000 miles] a turbocharged 2000 NSX-T that I still have and have miles on two Legends my folks owned years ago. Oh I also drove some miles on my sisters Accord and Prelude. Needless to say I love Hondas however, I am looking forward to my first Nissan. Its not exactly my first because I did buy my mom an I35 in 2004 and that awesome car has 185,000 on it now and still going strong. I am hoping my 2010 NISMO edition will give me many reliable years of trouble free driving just like all the Hondas I experienced.

Anyway, I am contemplating an oil cooler for the Z. I am reading some stuff on here about the Z1 Motorsports cooler and the Stillen cooler. I will be auto crossing the car and some small track use i.e. 1 mile long tracks or so. I live in Oklahoma and it gets hot here. Well into the hundreds in summer and cold in winter. It commonly gets to the 30's and 20's here. So, I think I need the thermostatic plate as not to over cool it if there is such a thing. Any opinions on which is the best cooler and how many rows it should be etc would be appreciated.

I also have plans to replace the rotors with Stoptech Crossdrilleds, Stainless lines, Hawk HPS Pads and Motul 600 fluid. Any advice or thoughts would be great.

Thanks again, take care and see you around the board.

Welcome! I suppose your Nav is aftermarket.... right?

I bought the car from Ferrari of Scottsdale and he said it was factory but I don't know. It is an Alpine INA W 900. It works the volume with steering mounted controls. It also has an Alpine four channel amp but the whole stereo system is very unimpressive so I am not sure if its even hooked up. It does have a backup camera as well that someone mounted upside down. I will take it to the stereo shop to see what's going on and maybe build a nice stereo system like my Integra had.

He was full of sh1t. Nismo's do NOT have Nav as an option.

Also congrats on the Nismo. Welcome to the club.

OK Cool I think he honestly didn't know but gave me a BS answer. However, how did they do the steering wheel controls then? Anyway thanks man.

I put a 25 row on mine but that is because I take it to the track about once a month and need the extra cooling but it you are not going to track the car 19 rows should be fine. I got the Z1 motorsport cooler that was great because it is a kit with everything included with the cooling including detailed instructions.

Congrats Matt and welcome to the club! Gomer was correct about Nismo's not coming factory with Nav. You can buy the adapters to make the steering wheel controls work with aftermarket HU's though. It's all covered in the audio section on here.

Welcome!!!

As long as you get the Z1 kit with thermoplate you will not over-cool the oil. Go for the 25 row and you will be in good shape. Install is easy once you get the bumper cover off Much easier with a buddy to help you with that bumper though. Im sure there is a DIY around here somewhere.

I'm sure you have seen a ton of mod threads here, I could recommend a few but won't except for one... Pull your Steering lock solenoid fuse to avoid a major headache and possibility of being stranded. I'm sure you've heard this already, but if not... well now you have. (There is a recall and a Nissan dealer will probably replace it for new but many of us suspect the new one will eventually fail too. (they usually go around 30-50k miles)

Welcome to the family.
