Whattup from LA!
Hey everyone,
I've been dabbing in the forum for almost a month now and decided to join in on the fun. I plan on purchasing a 370Z sometime in Late August/Early September. For now, I'm just saving some money for a down payment. I'm thinking of getting the Gun Metallic Base with the Sports Package. This car will be my daily driver and half my commute is through the streets of LA where the constant stop/go during rush hour can get ridiculous and tiring. So, I'm really torn on whether to get the Manual or Automatic. I've read the debates and they do seem to go back and forth and it seems like a matter of preference. Both do appear to have their pros and cons. I'll have some time to think about it and test drive both, but for now, I'm just saving, saving, and saving for that lower monthly payment. :) |
With that LA traffic I would say 7AT. 405 and 101 is torture. I've hit traffic there even at 12am and 2-3am lol.
|
Welcome & congrats on wanting to take that leap forward on getting a 370Z. The traffic will be a kick in the **** & the M6 might piss you the F OFF after several days, but w/o traffic you will love it. Keeps us up-to-date.

socal driver here... 6MT all the way

6MT fo life! Rev matching is priceless.
|
Welcome :hello:
Either Trans is Good It's just a matter of preference |
hehe AT has rev match too.. but personally I'm a manual guy for life however if you tend to get stuck in traffic or like to 'relax' while driving a lot (talk on phone, play with radio, etc.) you might consider an AT.

6mt driver, from sherman oaks to brentwood commute daily, no problems. I do turn on synchro rev during traffic.

martin82 - Do you ever get tired going up/down the 405 in traffic? The traffic that I deal with the most is during the street portion of my commute. I take Melrose to Western to Los Feliz during rush hour. Once, I'm on the 5, I'm gold as there's little traffic on the freeway back to Pasadena. I just would like to know if the clutch on the Z gets tiring after a while in traffic. Does the comfort increase once the clutch is broken into? Thanks ahead of time! |
I've had mechanical clutches the 16-ish years I've been driving.. and I thought the hydraulic 1 in the Z would be a soft mushy breeze.. but it's surprisingly stiff (not that it's a bad thing).
I guess it depends what you mean by 'a while' in traffic. If you're talking more than an hour.. it might get kinda uncomfortable/tiring. In my last car, after about an hour of stop-and-go.. sometimes my knee would hurt. It felt like it was popping in and out of the socket lol maybe cuz it was a hatchback and my leg was more bent while driving. |
I'd say go for the manual, but then again I only commute in the OC (Irvine)/IE (Riverside) areas so :icon14:
|
The morning commute isn't bad as it takes me 35 minutes to get to work. On the way home it ranges from 40-60 minutes. 2/3 of the commute home is in traffic, which isn't all that bad.
|
So I ended up getting the 2012 in Gun Metallic. I went with the majority of suggestions here and went with the manual. I am having no regrets!
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and for their suggestions. :) |
Very nice & you picked the GM & the M6.
