Z for a first car?

Hey guys. Well im new to this forum and i have enjoyed reading alot of other threads. But i have a question...well i will soon be getting an automatic 2009 370z, and i was wondering, would it make a good first car? Like is it an everyday car? Anything i should know before buying it? Thanks!

It isn't an everyday car but since you are from Florida, you might be able to drive it everyday. As for a first car, I wouldn't think it would be a great first car. A great first car would be like a 1995 Honda Civic. This is assuming you are still a teenager or still in College.

My first car was a 1984 Toyota Celica GT. It was older than me, RWD, and live axle. For something with 110lbs of torque, it should scare the crap out of me in the rain. Pretty damn reliable and simple to repair. Then I moved on to a 1992 Nissan 240sx. RWD engine bay layout made it great and easy for me for repairs without needing to go under at all.

Reason for me repairing cars is because I had time (in college), but do not have the money to get it repaired by a mechanic. Plus, I love to work on cars. I buy cars so I would learn how to work and tinker with them. If I screw up, $3000 is much better to lose than $30,000.

i would say as long as you respect the power and don't need any cargo space it's a good first car. i was driving a car while in HS with way more power then my Z or about any TT or SC 370Z and was fine.

My Z is a 2010 7AT and as for a DD it's perfectly fine for me. Gas milage is around 21-22mpg so it's comparable/better than most other cars in it's class. In terms of storage, aside from moving a house, you have all the space you need for day to day stuff, grocery runs, etc. Obviously if you're moving anything large, practicality suggest you'd use a different vehicle, so assuming you're as intelligent as the next guy thats a no brainer. Comfort is fine, I preferred the AT so as for DD and highway traffic, no clutch = happy driver. But that's just me.

I think it depends - do you mean your first car, or the first car you buy?

My first car was my mom's Dodge Colt, but the first car I purchased was a Toyota MR-2 SC. Having a few years driving experience helped when the MR-2 made it too easy to make a mistake, and you can make much bigger mistakes in the 370Z.

Also, don't turn off the VDC until you have had track school

I just recently got my license and a week after, bought my first car, my Z, and stick at that. I pretty much learned how to drive and drive manual at the same time. I live in NYC. So as long as you're cautious and careful, you should be fine.

For me, it isnt really about like if its a good first or what. It's all about if you like the car overall and how long you plan keeping it. My Z is my 5th car, and I plan on keeping it. Overall things you get at it's price point -performance, looks, maintenance makes it top notch.

With that said, keep doing test drives, take a real deep feel and look on it. Ask yourself if you would like to keep a car like this, looks very beautiful, powerful, not too expensive, cheap maintenance but isn't a carpool car and no storage for folks who moves stuff a lot.

As far as tranny goes, I went for MT, I know the AT is fantastic but MT will be classic plus I feel that I'm contributing more for the car. I've read somewhere that MT will be obsolete soon.

Back to your topic, IMHO, it's a fantastic car for a first time buyer. My suggestion is to lock yourself to which color you want, what trim you want and if you want regular Z or a Nismo version. Good luck brotha!

my first car was an 1995 sienna hehehe (don't hate on a van :P) but I have moved on to a 2010 7AT White 370z and I'm a young dude. I still use my sienna as a daily driver for work/school but once I'm done with all that the 370z is fine for a DD. The only problem is if your still young and will be in need of carrying friends or relatives or w.e just remember sometimes 1 seat is just too small . For a nice sunny day there is no car better for a cruise than a 370z!!
