Possible Evo convert
I have been tossing around this idea in my head of selling my Evo and buying a 370Z and thought I would make an intro here since I'll be exploring these forums. I currently drive a 2008 Evo X GSR. Lightly modded pushing out 335whp at 26psi.
Performance wise its an amazing car, however quality wise it needs improvement. I have fixed various small issues on my own and have been to the dealer multiple times for recalls and warranty work. Customer service has been less than stellar at the 5 different dealerships I have been to. The closest being 40min away and the furthest almost 2 hours. I tried them all and have yet to find a quality dealership. I know a lot of people dont consider dealership service when purchasing a car, I didnt at first, but when your car has numerous issues that require multiple visits to a far away dealer it becomes a significant factor. Nissan has a GTR certified dealer 5 minutes from my place which is a big plus. I'm into the whole brand loyalty thing. I want to be able to go back to my dealer who I trust and purchase future cars. First, Mitsubishi has no other cars worth even looking at and second, every single dealer is shady. Nissan atleast has the GTR which I hope to own in the future. The maxima would be nice for the misses. I'll take an xterra to go off-roading upstate. And I would even consider the tiny little leaf for the daily commute to work. The main reason I'm looking to get away from Mitsubishi and into Nissan is because of the quality. How is the overall quality of the 370Z? Any squeaks or rattles while driving or when the temperature drops? How often have you guys been to the dealer to get work done? The second reason I like the 370Z is the RWD. The Evo handles great and flies aroud the track but its not as fun a RWD. I want to be able to kick out the rear end on demand and drift around corners. I want to work to control my car. Yes it will be harder to get around the track than an Evo but I will feel more rewarded in doing so. I need to build my skill level and not have a car drive for me. Anyone own an Evo X and sell it for a 370Z? Thoughts and opinions welcome. If there is already a thread on this topic feel free to point me in the right direction. I love reading material. |

Personally ive never compared the evo against the Z except in straight line performance. Everything else is kinda apples to oranges. One being a true 2 seater rwd sports car and the other a 4 door awd turbo.

The Z's definitely have their pros and cons, like any car. The quality in the Z is good. A lot better than a 350. Interior is much better. There are a lot of noises in the cabin and the car is kinda "harsh." The one thing you will have to know is the Z has pretty much no insolation. So you hear and feel everything, but that is a characteristic of a sports car and can be fixed with dynamat.
The Z is definitely more expensive to mod than the Evo, but I like the potential the Z has. From what you've said it seems you've already made your decision. I can't speak on behalf of the Mitsubishi dealerships but my experiences at my Nissan dealer have been good. If you don't mind me asking, what issues did you have with the Evo?

Ive driven a couple of evo's and yeah, the quality between the evo and 370z is just years apart. But you do lose obvious practicality. There have been alot of people who purchased the z cus its nice looking, good quality etc but then sell it months later because they cant live with it. but as for help with a decision, just gotta go test drive em. |

There have been recalls for fuel lines causing engine fires, hood latches breaking when trying to open, air bag sensor fouling up, staples coming out of the seats (still fighting with Mitsubishi to get this fixed). My battery had a dead cell and I had a leak in my power steering which was 'patched'. I think thats it...
This past weekend I spent a full day taking apart the dash to silence numerous squeaks and rattles. Its amazing how cheap the plastics are on this car. My shift book and steering wheel are pleather (plastic leather) and my steering wheel has cracks all over. I think spending so much time in the cabin shaking my head at the poor quality this past weekend is what put me over the edge. |

Forgot to mention, some people complain about clutch chatter, but when your driving I dont really ever hear it. Also some people had clutch sticking to the floor problems, but for some, a change to some good MOTUL fluids (or similar) and a SS clutch line solved that. And if you do track alot, fuel starvation seems to be a big complaint. Need to keep the car pretty much topped off, dont go below 3/4 fuel. |

The ONLY thing I think you'll miss from the Evo is the torque from the turbo and a back seat. And there are multiple FI applications to choose from for the Z as well.
