Default New & about to buy.

I'm looking at getting a 370z to replace my rx8(pictured below).
I'm 20 yrs old and I live right outside of houston, TX.

I purchased my rx8 about 8 months ago fully stock from a used car dealership and wasted a bit of money. i paid 15.5k when 8's were selling on rx8club.com for 10-12grand.

So I decided to come do my research here before making a bad buying decision again. I'm about to start searching for threads and I'm sure I'll find answers to my questions but to help me keep track and for some opinions-

1.
I'm considering the sport package, i dislike leather seats in the touring model. though i have not been inside either model yet for a test drive, any recommendations on trim packages?

2.
for my rx8 I had to constantly observe oil levels and engine compression in later miles, as well as a semi weak cat and a few other things. what are some of the 370z's common quirky things that you have to check or be careful with specific to the car.

3.
new or used?
im guessing almost every used 370z for sale has been ragged on by previous owner and might have hidden problems that will pop up in year or two....what do you guys think, in terms of that?

any advice about anything i did not mention is appreciated....and now im off to start lurking and reading. thanks!
