The Gen Coupe was always on the radar. After laying down all the pros and cons of each, the Gen Coupe came out on top because of my driving style and what I needed it for. I was looking for a Daily Driver, and I thought the Z was going to be a little overkill for my commute to and from work. I work for Mercedes-Benz and since I am in the auto business, I ONLY lease cars. The lease on a Gen Coupe versus a Z was leaps and bounds better. Hyundai's Residual and MF was just too good to pass up. Even getting both cars at triple-net.

On any rate, I got the 3.8 6-Speed Track Edition with the Brembos, LSD, HID, Nav, and all the bells and whistles. Performance wise, I knew the Z was better but the value of the Hyundai was literally like a b*tch slap the in the face of the Z. If I were going to track the car, I'd take the Z hands down. For every day use, you're not beating the Gen Coupe and what the car offers. I have not had single problem with the car. No tranny issues whatsoever.

Agreed that the 2.0T is slow as a dog, but the 3.8 offers fantastic performance and styling. It's a satisfaction knowing that I'm still faster than 95% of the cars on the road. I'm used to 500+ HP AMG missles (with the exception of our C63 AMG with only 451-HP) and the Gen Coupe is quick. I'll always be a fan of the Z, but some of you who bash it because it's a Hyundai seriously need to get out more. I work for the in MB, and my co-workers don't even question me why I drive a Hyundai anymore. In fact, I frown when anybody talks bad about another company.

I guesss... to each their own.

Exactly what do you do for MB? Why don't you drive one of the cars from the "best automotive brand in the world?"

I'm really not talking BAD about any car company, but lets remember what we are discussing here.

Hyundai. In case you have forgot, it's the same company that brought you these.

Seriously, look at the Gen Coupes heritage. I'm not here to argue that the car isn't well equipped. Sure it is. If options is more important than quality.

What is the old saying... Quality before Quantity?

That is certainly a matter of opinion.

06+ Civic Si's with bolt ons will give you a run.

Could it because they are tired of hearing a Hyundai owner justify why they bought (or in your case leased) a Hyundai?

I'm not trying to be a d*ck here, I just want you to see why these cars are so different. If you don't care about owning a quality sports car that has more than 40 years of heritage, built and designed by one of the most innovative and motorsport-oriented companies in the world than that is fine. But don't complain when I say the Genesis has a garbage gear box.

Here it is again... the "value." Man, Hyundai must be killin' it with the PR stuff. Why was it a slap in the face? Because Nissan doesn't want to give away things for free or lower the quality of their Z car? I think the Z is priced appropriately and the people that drive them seem to be a different type of crowd.

I am a Star Certified Sales Consultant and an AMG Specialist of the biggest AMG Performance Center in the USA. As I stated above, I was looking for a 2-Door Coupe and manual tranny and MB does NOT offer it. I work for them, they give me a demo to drive any time I want (2011 E350 4Matic), and my whole family drives them. That is why I went in a different direction. We have an Infiniti showroom and a G37S could of been had at a DEP (Dealer Employee Pricing), and I still chose the Gen Coupe.

Ummm No... no it will not and not even close. I traded in my 08 Civic Si Coupe with all the bolt-ons and I wouldn't be any where close to the 3.8. It'll beat the 2.0T though...

My argument to my coworkers wasn't a long one. Just handed them the keys, let them take it for a spin, and case closed. We also have a Porsche/Aston Martin showroom next to our MB one, and I see 370Z's there every day, including another coworker in the company that owns one. I'm sure he had to justify himself to the Porsche crew as well. Sooo what's your point?

You aren't being a d*ck at all. I can obvi see why and how these 2 cars are different. Like I said, to each their own and the Gen Coupe was better suited for my lifestyle. I actually only wanted a 2-seater as I hate people sitting in the back! When did I complain the gearbox was garbage? I admit my Civic Si had a better gearbox. Whatever Nissan's heritage is, MB is one up so I really don't care about who has more heritage or who is more innovative. As you can see since I leased a Hyundai.

Let's get back on topic, I hope this thread doesn't degenerate into a "bash Hyundai/prop Nissan" argument.

First off:

For OP, I'll need to add oil consumption was also listed as a problem in the past, but I haven't heard it crop up lately. Probably the only thing you may miss coming from a Gen Coupe would be the back seats.

Could I ask what you paid for this? Curious. What's the real issue with the Gen Coupe's tranny? I never test drove one while shopping around several months ago.

And finally:

U, my friend, are a BlackBerry ninja, if you're replying on this forum with quotes, no less. I get tired using mine to reply to emails.

Merry Christmas to you and everyone else as well!

Just like several other posters on this thread, I am looking at both of these cars for my next vehicle purchase. What a tough choice! The main differentiators / pros and cons for me are: GenCoupe has back seat, better LSD, probably cheaper to insure (any input on this?), no oil overheating issues, probably easier to negotiate price at dealership BUT has HUGE transmission problems that still don't have an official fix, will definitely have/want to mod it way more that the Z to feel happy with it (right off the bat will have to buy coilovers, wheels, tranny bushings and quick-shifter and possibly swap the engine/tranny mounts) that will make the dealer give me a hard time if I ever need work done under warranty. Lastly... sorry but it is a Hyundai... there is no other car made by this company that I would've ever though about buying and unfortunately the first thought that comes to most people mind when they hear this brand is "cheap"

Now for the 370Z: True sportscar, proven long-time reliability (i plan on keeping whichever car I buy next for a long time - so please chime in if I'm wrong) and plenty of time to work out all the little details since Nissan has extensive experience building sportscars and the fact that this model is based on the 350z. Complete set of features of what I want in a car on the base model + sport package save some minor things easily done aftermarket. And now for the cons: NO BACK SEAT! This could be a deal breaker and the biggest compromise for me... oil temp issue and cheap LSD, lower residual value than the GenCoupe?? (Not sure about that).

Honorable mention: if I can hold off on the purchase for a while, the Toyota/Subaru/scion FT86 would be another option, but a lot is still uncertain about it so we'll see...

One thing is for sure, after writing this post the 370z seems like to better option of the two IMHO. By the way, Im looking at getting either a 2011 3.8 R-Spec (or maybe Track?) or a 2010 Base+SportPkg 370z but If I could afford it, without a doubt the car I would get is a Black 10' NISMO 370z

That about sums it up for me, hope you find the info you are looking for.
