Former 2010 GT500 Shelby Owner
Just sold my 2010 GT500 Shelby and purchased a 2010 Platinum Graphite Sport/Touring Model with Nav and front and rear mats. I had a hard time parting with the Shelby, but I needed to slow things down some before I lose my license then the job. I have a great county job and need my CDL to keep it. My Shelby GT500 is a great car with tons of power 11.95 @ 120mph stock, but every time I drove it, the sound of the exhaust always temped me to exceed the speed limit. I wanted something that has great styling like the Z but not as much power, no offense on the power. I sure hope my new Z treats me as good as my Shelby did, I had zero problems except a lead foot. Looking forward to having some great times in my new car:driving:.

Welcome, Z-Guy!
You've slowed down from a 12 second car to a 13 second car. lol Post pics of your baby when you can! And congratulations!!!!!! |
Yeah I'm thinking you haven't given up a whole lot there. Welcome to the club you'll enjoy the corners a bit more in the Z too!

The sound of the exhaust note from the GT500 along with 540 HP and 510 FT LBS get you moving in a BIG HURRY. The Z has a quieter exhaust note and is a little tamer to drive, so I'm able to control myself. I really love the lines of this car, I was cleaning up the new Garage Queen before I parked her tonight.
Thanks for the welcome, I'm taking a lot of razzing from my old friends on the Shelby Forum. |

welcome and congratz! If sound is what moves you.. keep the stock exhaust.. otherwise i think you will soon realize this is one of the best sounding V6 cars, and your problems will start all over again hah.

z looks better and would handle better, cost alot less, and later if you want reliable power get motor built and slap on a pair of turbos and smoke the shelby haha youd probably still be saving money

But what happens when you modify a GT 500? GAME OVER. Plus they can be had for really cheap now days. Either way, both nice cars and I'm sure the OP will be a bit less likely to get in trouble with the Z. Cars like the GT500 with huge amounts of low / mid range torque can easily get you in trouble. You could be cruising at around 45mph, tap the throttle and before you know it you're at 80+mph without realizing it. It's that effortless acceleration you get when the car has a very high torque to weight ratio. Driving the 370z I was never surprised by its acceleration, it was real easy to judge the MPH and stay within reasonable limits. If the Z had 330+ft-lb of torque@3krpms it would be a different story. |
I drove my friend's GT500 and it's a nice car. But I wouldn't trade my Z for it in a million years. The GT500 feels like it's 5,000lbs and you're immersed deep in the middle of all of it. Also, my Z with HFCs and a Stillen exhaust sounds meaner than his stock GT500. Could his GT500 smoke his tires off and get him to 1/4mi faster than my Z? Sure. But does it have the handling feedback and poise of the Z? Not even close. And for the price of the GT500, I can supercharge my 370 which would leave the GT500 behind me on any track.
In short, welcome to the370Z.com. You now have a much better car :) |

The Z is a great looking car with some awesome lines but it has a tamer temperment, which I need. I do miss my GT500 and I'm still having withdrawl symptons, but when I get home and look at the Z I feel better. |
